In the wild, reindeer eat and then scatter a wide range of seeds in their dung, providing an ideal nutrient-rich place for young plants to grow. This dung is taken from UK zoos and safari parks, and is treated to make it germ and odour free. Simply sow the seeds, water the box and watch the plants grow. A lovely idea from the Natural History Museum.

A Tree in Your Pocket - Jacqueline Memory Paterson
The information that is given for each of the seventeen trees is nothing like you would expect to see in a traditional arboreal guide. This book is a mystical and spiritual guide to the trees. Each section begins with basic details, such as the Latin name and the Gaelic or Irish name, the Ogham and Runic symbol, the ruling planet and the 'abilities' of each tree. There are sections on how each tree was viewed by pagan and Christian traditions, what healing properties are inherent, what magical properties...

There are many such trees like this in Sherwood forest. It was suspected that the trees had died due to water being pumped out of coal mines in the local area which would have lowered the water table, causing drought, but it is more likely to be a combination of factors. The soil in the area is very light and sandy and quickly drained, and climate change might also affect the amount of water available. All plants become stressed during droughts, and susceptible to disease at such times. It is also...

A cat, chased by a dog, runs to the top of a very tall tree and after can't get down. Those that pass by go up the tree with the idea of helping; but things start to get more and more complicated and the solidarity of the firemen, neighbours and family turns into a problem for the tree, that can't support so much weight.
