A real museum piece - Dunville's was produced by Dunville & Co. at the Royal Irish Distillery in Belfast, which operated from the 1870s but closed in the 1930s. This Three Crowns bottling was pure potstill whisky with some noticeable sherry cask influence. A dram of Irish distilling history.

Review : This blended whiskey has a floral, peppery scent. The high proportion of malt whiskey shows through in subtle flavours which develop with each sip. In fact the blend is such that it may win some who dislike the smokey/salty/peaty tones sometimes associated with whiskies (Scottish & Irish alike). In comparison with 'Jameson' I would suggest that '70' is the smoother of the two & deserves to win many converts. I would even seek novice whiskey drinkers to give it a try too.

Redbreast 12 Year Old is the only aged Pure Pot still whiskey on sale today. It was first launched in 1939 as the brand name given to the pot still whiskey supplied by Jameson to whiskey bonders before bottling at the distillery became the norm in 1968. Stocks of whiskey in bonders’ stores petered out, and thus Redbreast all but disappeared until its re-launch by the distillery in the 1990s as a single pot still whiskey. Locke’s distillery has the distinction of being the oldest continuously licensed distillery in the world dating back to 1757. Sadly due to an economic decline in the 1950’s, Locke’s distilling company was forced to sell its assets. Locke’s Irish Whiskey was resurrected by Cooley distillery in the late 1980’s. This is a light and zesty 8 year old whiskey, aged in oak casks for 8 years.
