This is a lovely Ainu carving, bear with salmon, the expression on the bears face is wonderful, see photos. These carvings, from the Ainu people, in the North island of Japan, Hokkaido, will gradually become rarer, as the generation producing the works slowly die out. The younger people are no longer interested in continuing the crafts. This bear would make a wonderful interior design statement and talking point. Price includes postage, he is quite heavy!

This is a lovely example of carving, by the indigenous people of Hokkaido, the Ainu. It is a particularly fine carving of mother and baby bear, the mother carrying a fish. They are on a carved pedestal, which is signed and decorated with Ainu designs similar to the ones seen on ceremonial garments. Please look at the detail in the carving, it is really wonderful.
