This is a very simple question because I don't know diddly about Endnote. Here's the situation: I am working on a book using Word for Mac 2011 on a Mac intel desktop running Lion. I have endnotes at the tail of all my chapters. What I would like to is move those endnotes into a separate document (a chapter of all the endnotes) while preserving the original reference numbers. I can't do this in Word. Can your software help?   Many thanks    

I use the Cite While You Write feature although I don't use instant formatting because I find it irritating having the bibliography always at the bottom of my work. I am wondering if there is a way to format Endnote so when using numerical referencing, the first reference number is always (1). Yes to both. We use a central folder for all of our EndNote stuff. When dealing with styles, I have everyone copy the style to their individual computers in their EndNote style file. I went through the steps with her and made sure she was doing everything right. It's jsut bugging me that I can't figure out what the issue is.   Example. I think you will find that clicking off that record (and respond to the query if you should save the record)  and onto it again will reveal the attachment.  I think this behavior has been reported.  Some of the other ways to attach the PDF do not seem to require the save step, for example dragging and dropping the file onto a record, so yes, I think it is an inconsistent behavior.

While this error does seem to come up frequently, it's cause is not really completely cut and dry. It can be very different issues happening in each of the word documents you are using. It may be a table that has gotten corrupt, or a damaged field code somewhere in your specific document. Did you check the EndNote Preferences setting to see if the "Folder Locations" for the style folder has the correct path?   Go to the EndNote toolbar, select EDIT, PREFERENCES.  In the Preferences list (see attached image), click to select "Folder Locations" then in the right column, check the directory path listed or use the "Browse" button to locate and select the EndNote Styles folder. Then click the OK button to save and exit.

This is probably because there is no distinguishing feature  as many of the fields are empty (right?) in the record.  so endnote thinks they are duplicates.     From the help: "References are considered duplicates if they are the same reference type (such as Journal Article or Book) and the following fields are identical: Author, Year, Title, Secondary Title (Journal, Newspaper, Magazine, Book Title, Series Title, Conference Name, and so on), Volume, Issue, and Pages."  So try putting...

The font I'm using in Word is Cambria 11 but my citations come up in Helvetica 12. If you have the specifics of the style, you can look thru the collection here in another thread where a wide range of basic styles are provided which may match the Ambio requirements, or come close enough that it is a simple fix to adapt one of them. 

A journal comes out with weekly or monthly issues that are parts of the Volume while a Series is published in volumes which are part of a Series.    I don't think it matters if they are peer reviewed or not.  I list peer reviewed journal articles and chapters separately in my CV than non-peer reviewed articles and chapters.    At the end of the day, as long as someone can find the article in question, I don't think it is a big deal which one you choose.  If you feel that the Journal format...

I recommend you try APA 6th and a reference type like electronic article or electronic book.  You can also edit the style, save it to a new name to display the data that you want to appear.  An example of APA 6th where I have put specific data in specific fields and the preview (with the style open to the bibliography template item) is shown in the attached.  If you want the URL or other info to appear in another template, you will have to edit it to include that information. 

Is there a way to have a prefix in the bibliography (not in the citation, which is already possible). I mean something like this:   1) For an execellent review see: X. Y. Author, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 111, 3422.   At the moment I realize this by a custom field "prefix" in the record set. This has the disadvantage that I have to keep two records. The easiest way I have found,  is to write down your activation and serial numbers (which I assume you still have in an email?) You'll need to check the "Authors Name" setting (for Citations) within your output style.  Go to the EndNote toolbar, select EDIT, OUTPUT STYLES, EDIT [name of your style].  The output style will pop-up and in the left column (see image), locate "Citations" then click "Author Name".  Use the Name Format (to the right) pull-down menus to make your selection(s).  Close the window when completed - you will be prompted to save the changes which will be made as a &quot...

Well as a final work-around, I suggest that you select and edit each citation via the dialog and hide the author for the West refs, and put "West" in the prefix and it will reflect what you want it to reflect.

If you have the original data folder for the destroyed library file intact,  you can try to fix the library in the following way:   Remove old library file (.enl file) to another folder.   Create an empty Notepad file and store it in the same folder where the data folder is located (NOT within the data folder, but at the same level)! I tested Chicago 16th B with Windows 7 and EndNote X4.0.2 and the "___" line for repeated authors performed correctly.  Are you using a Mac as maybe this might be a Mac-related issue.  Also, although you're using 16th B, have you tried Chicago 16th A to see if the repeated authors "____" notation works with this version?

If you are using RefMan's built-in XML export feature (File > Export), instead of an ouput style, you might not be able to do much. It might be easier to ask your CMS programmer to update the XML import feature to remove or ignore the <abbr-1>s. Or you could see if someone has made an XML output style and shared it online.   PS - I'm in RefMan 11, not sure if anything has changed for RefMan 12.    

Hello,   I am about to submit an article. One of the requirements is that consecutive references are given as a range with a en rule. Moreover, the en rule has to be used in the reference list (for the page range in the article).   The references must be cited according to vancouver numbering style.
