Rannoch Moor is located to the south east of Fort William. It is a plateau at around 1100 feet above sea-level, created 20,000 years ago by the movement of glaciers. It is surrounded by 3,000 foot mountains and acts as a watershed collecting the water run-off and diverting it westward to the Atlantic or eastward to the North sea.
