More approachable (it tips the scales at 13.2% alcohol), the 2011 Alter Ego de Palmer is composed of 48% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and a whopping 15% Petit Verdot. Despite all of the latter varietal, the wine is velvety textured, pure and impressively endowed with a lovely fragrance. It should drink beautifully for 10-15+ years.

Alter Ego de Château Palmer 2007: Alcohol 12.5%, and 30% new oak, a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. The second wine, accounting for 50% of the harvest in 2007. Alter Ego de Chateau Palmer 2007 has a fresh and floral nose, slightly meaty, with a sandy mineral character. On the palate, a fresh and immediate stony quality, not fleshy but structured, with obvious tannins coming through. Fresh, gently textured, harmonious and sappy, with a clean finish.

The second wine of Chateau Palmer which sits atop a gravely plateau in sight of the River Garonne and Château Margaux, with its 55 hectares of vineyards in the commune of Cantenac. This 49% Merlot, 51% Cabernet encompassed the depth of dense, ripe black fruit. More accessible than its big brother it makes you want to drink it there and then!
