Château Bourgneuf 2004 Pomerol
A classic Pomerol blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc from this little-known château, with only 9 hectares of vines, which average around 40 years of age. From a solid vintage, this wine offers a supple structure and plenty of soft fruit, and is drinking very well now.
Bourgneuf, owned by the Vayron family for six generations, is one of the oldest in Pomerol and consists of nine hectares for the most part on the best Pomerol soil of clay-gravel on a clay bed with iron-pan (crasse de fer) which gives the wine distinctive perfume and structure. Denis Dubourdieu is consultant oenologist here.
