Took some with me to Iceland last week, having bought it at the airport, totally blind, and trusting in the name. It's gorgeous!A third of it was drunk during the 5 days we were there,the remainder gifted to a whisky-loving Icelandic friend.I NEVER put water in my whisky- it tastes like it's got water in it! My dad had a saying that if you absolutely HAVE to take water with your whisky, it should be burn water only, and "just enough to let it paddle: not enough to let it swim"!

The nose offers a fresh and aromatic experience with a subtle whiff of smoke floating through the air. The taste starts with a light fruit and nut appeal that leads to a spectacular malty sweetness, finishing into a beautifully rich full-bodied, lingering experience.

A fantastic mix of aged notes such os simmering mocha, rancio, old pipe tobacco, salt, crystalised fruits, old leather, green fruits, sinewy malty notes and very gentle spice. A really beautiful and complex profile that keeps on developing for a long long time. Yet another example of how brilliant old Bunnahabhains can be.

Bunnahabhain 1997 malt whisky has a slight sweetness with just a subtle smokiness and some rather rich vannila flavours.

Six miles along a single track road, on the north east coast of Islay you will find Bunnahabhain distillery. Although a gentler whisky than some of its more "full on" counterparts, the aroma and flavour exhibit a salty ozone character along with soft islay tones.

Unusually for Bunnahabhain 'Toiteach' is a smoky style of whisky (Toch Chach means smoky) achieved by using peated malted barley. This Bunnahabhain has been matured at the distillery, never leaving Islay. Bottled at 46%abv.

A giant leap forward for Bunnahabhain 12yo, this edition was launched in summer 2010 with a jump in strength to 46.3% and a declaration of no chill-filtration and no added colouring. Enormous credit goes to Burn Stewart for giving punters what they want without jacking up the price too much and we earnestly hope that this will be a massive success. Bravo!

Bunnahabhain 25 year old is delivered in the smoked oak glass bottle but its labelling is on aged parchment and it finds its bed in an Alder wooden box lined with Hessian and closed with solid brass fittings. This 25 year old has an amber gold colouring with quite a sherried nose, at first, that introduces a stunning sweet caramel dessert aroma, beautifully entwined with subtle suggestions of oak and polished leather. Bottled for the Islay festival 2004, this is a brutal young beast of a Bunnahabhain. A seven year old cask of the peated Bunnahabhain distillate that has been made steadily since 1996/97. This is like chewing a very heavily smoked carpet. A real wild child.

Bunnahabhain 12-year-old single Islay malt has soft hints of sultanas and sea-breeze, with just a faint waft of smoke. On the palate it has mouth-filling and mouthwatering fruit that builds up to an intense malt which is flanked by salt. The finish remains salty ending in a burst of vanilla and malt.

Bunnahabhain (pronounced Bu-na-ha-venn) lies on the isolated north-eastern tip of Islay, close to the Margadale River (Bunnahabhain means mouth of the river in Scots Gaelic). Building of the distillery commenced on the site in 1881. At that time the sea offered the easiest access to this remote place and men would battle the ocean to arrive with their barley in preparation for the creation of something quite wonderful. Bunnahabhain 25 year old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is aged in oak casks for 25 year. It is amber gold in colour and on the nose it gives off sweet caramel and on the palate it is of sweet berries roasted nuts and malt feast.

3cl / 49.70% - A rich and beautifully dark Bunnahabhain which we presume was aged in a very good sherry cask. This stuff was distilled in 1979 and aged for 23 long years before bottling in October 2002. This superb malt comes from our Lost Bottlings Series - a range of whiskies bottled many years ago, offering whisky lovers a chance to try spirit from a bygone era of distillation.
