  • Clos Du Marquis 2009
    Clos Du Marquis 2009

Tasting notes Clos de Marquis 2009, 70% Cab Sauv, 20% Merlot, 8% Cab Franc & 2% Pet Verdot. 25% new oak ageing. Quite mineral on the nose together with dark fruits, then extract and structure forces its way through. Super harmony and with a freshness that brings flavours alive. Seamless in texture. There is nothing hard or harsh here, but a 'togetherness' and class that greatly impresses. Really good - indeed very good. Drink 2018 - 2030

Château Clos Du Marquis, St. Julien, 1989 75cl

28/02/1993 - Wine Advocate ( Robert Parker ) Note : 88 / 100 The 1989's complex bouquet of toasty new oak and cassis is followed by a surprisingly rich, deep, well-built wine that resembles the great Leoville Las-Cases. This beauty will support considerable cellaring. If you can neither afford Leoville Las-Cases nor wait for it to lose all its tannins, consider this offering from Clos du Marquis. Anticipated maturity: Now-2005.

Bordeaux is France's largest quality wine region, indeed producing almost as much wine as Australia. Its westerly position ensures a mild maritime climate, a long growing season and mild summers; rains in the autumn are the primary threat to the harvest, dampening expectations in around one year in three. Clos du Marquis ,1979

Description and Reviews: Diplaying all the character of its sibling, the 1979 Clos du Marquis has some some hard tannin remaining in the finish. Nevertheless, it reveals good fruit, a stylish, curranty, mineral, and vanillin-scented nose, medium body, some compactness, and a crisp, short finish. drink from now until 2011

  • CLOS DU MARQUIS red 1990, Second wine of Château Léoville Las Cases
CLOS DU MARQUIS red 1990, Second wine of Château Léoville Las Cases

Description of this Saint-Julien The largest of the three sections of vines at Léoville Las Cases is known as L'Enclos, because its 50 hectares are surrounded by a stone wall; it overlooks the Gironde estuary on a beautiful gravel terroir that neighbours Latour. A second wine, the Clos de Marquis gets its name from this vineyard. It is mostly made from youngest vines, which does not prevent the wine from being a resounding success.

    Clos du Marquis, St Julien

"One of Bordeaux’s top second wines, the 2004 Clos du Marquis exhibits crunchy, juicy, red cherry and currant fruit along with notions of herbs and spice box. Well-made, medium-bodied, elegant, and reminiscent of its bigger sibling, it should age well for 10-15 years" 87-89 Points, Robert Parker

  • 2006 Clos Du Marquis St Julien
2006 Clos Du Marquis St Julien

As usual, the second wine, the 2006 Clos du Marquis, exhibits a character similar to the grand vin, but it is a more fruit-forward effort with sweeter tannins, and a more precocious, evolved personality. With super intense black cherry and cedary notes intermixed with hints of licorice and barrique, this deep, medium to full-bodied, velvety-textured wine is ideal for consumption over the next 15+ years.

Grape Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Description The second wine of Léoville-Las Cases, Clos du Marquis is made from a similar blend of roughly 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Now drinking at its peak, the 2002 is a medium-bodied and complex wine, with the classic notes of earth, graphite and forest floor embellishing a core of blackcurrant fruit and persistent, textural tannins. Clos du Tue-Boeuf VDT Rouge "La Guerrerie" 2009/10

This is a blend of 75% Cot and 25% Gamay and definitely earns its wacky wine moniker. Very earthy (polite term for barnyardy) with extremely bright fruit such as plum, spice, fresh herbs with ash and wood notes. Dusty, earthy, minerally, complex and savoury. Structured as much by acid as by tannins. Despite its brightness it is definitely on the dark berry fruit side of things. As with other "low sulphur" wines you can‘t escape the ping of wild yeast which manifests itself here as warm, doughy smells...
