Glen Keith was the first distillery in Scotland to have a gas-fired still and to have its production process automated.

Glen Keith Distillery opened in 1957 with three stills, and was built by Chivas bros for triple distillation. This was abandoned in 1970 and a further two stills were added with all stills now being gas fired, the first in Scotland. The make is a major component of Passport blends. Now just completing a rebuild it is expected to start re-distilling in April 2013.

Originally a meal mill, Glen Keith Distillery is in Keith, on the banks of the river Isla, opposite the Strathisla Distillery. Although much of the mill has been demolished, Chivas Brothers converted it to a distillery in 1958 and it was one of the first new malt distilleries built in Scotland since the distillery-building boom of the 1890's. This Glen Keith from Gordon & MacPhail was distilled in March 1968 and bottled in August 2008 from refill American Hogsheads. It is very rare to see a whisky from this moth balled distillery which is unlikely to ever operate again.

Glen Keith was built on the bank of the River Isla opposite Strathisla in 1957, on the site of an old meal mill. The distillery was originally set up as a three still operation using one wash still, one low wines still and a spirit still. This practice continued until 1970 when two further stills were added and then a sixth was added in 1983. Adelphi - Some nose prickle to start with; underneath, a light fruitcake, with dried apricots and angelica. Soon becomes denser - now alcoholic triffle, with custard, sponge fingers, maraschino cherries and cream. The nose continues to open, now somewhat nose drying with a very interesting earthy note.
