5th View London - Pubs & Bars Information and Reviews, 203-205 Piccadilly, St James

5th View Bar & Food is a big improvement on the previous place. I love the idea of a place to eat and drink in a book shop, but the reality is a bit different. The staff will let you browse with books in the cafe, but too many people are absorbed in their books to look after their children that are running amock. I really like 5th View Bar & Food, but feel that more could be done to preserve the grownup atmosphere here.

Golden Pagoda London - Restaurant Information and Reviews, 15a Gerrard Street, Chinatown

As for their a la carte menu- I can't really comment on that as I've never eaten from it. I can well believe it's not up to much- that's not unusual in chinatown. When you find a good place (which I have) you should stick to it. Oddly i find that the cheaper places are often best (I've been going to Wong Kei's on Wardour street for years for non dim sum eats and Jen cafe on little Newport street's fresh beijing dumplings are fab!) Stay away from the all you can eat buffet's for a start!

Bar Story London - Pubs & Bars Information and Reviews, 213 Blenheim Grove, Peckham

An eccentric, lovely looking and timely addition to the area, this venue offers an impressively wide range of bottled beers and good value wines. As a restaurant the food is mod-med basic but decent (and amusingly subject to the ever-changing vagaries of the eclectic clientele, the whims of the owner and chef(s) and the stock levels of the fridge).

    Parallax - Poetry Book Society

In Parallax Sinead Morrissey documents what is caught, and what is lost, when houses and cityscapes, servants and saboteurs ('the different people who lived in sepia') are arrested in time by photography (or poetry), subjected to the authority of a particular perspective. Assured and disquieting, Morrissey's poems explore the paradoxes in what is seen, read and misread in the surfaces of the presented world.

    Essays and Reviews: 1959-2002 (Hardback)

Bernard Williams was one of the most important philosophers of the last fifty years, but he was also a distinguished critic and essayist with an elegant style and a rare ability to communicate complex ideas to a wide public. This is the first collection of Williams' popular essays and reviews, many of which appeared in the New York Review of Books, the London Review of Books, and the Times Literary Supplement. In these pieces, Williams writes about a broad range of subjects, from philosophy and political...

This anthology is a celebration of the city of London: 'Noisy, stimulating, deadening, filthy, mysterious, tolerant, racist, crime-ridden, saint-haunted, ancient, up-to-the-minute, oppressive, liberating, crowded, lonely, addictive, and green-and-gardened, London is a microcosm of the World.' These words, from Anna Adams' Foreword, give a taste of the breadth of subject-matter and tone to be enjoyed in this magnificent illustrated anthology. Writing from the Middle...

Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops (Hardback)

'Weird Things...' breaks the rules and does exactly what it says on the cover. It's a collection of funny and frightful things said in bookshops in the UK and around the world. The first two sections represent things said in the Edinburgh Bookshop, Edinburgh, and Ripping Yarns, North London, while the last chapter covers everywhere else. This book really brightened up my afternoon. I literally laughed out loud while reading it, much to the annoyance of those around me who were trying to watch telly...

    Graham Crowley

Quite quickly his visual language moved to the figurative, with the need to draw content into his images: with his conscious adoption of 'genre' painting, his subject became increasingly his own life and work experience. Following landscape paintings of housing estates focussed on urban decay, Crowley directed his attention to the genres of rural landscape and flower painting, the landscape of West Cork inspiring his most recent paintings since Crowley moved there in the mid-1990s.

Merchant of Bishopsgate London - Restaurant Information and Reviews

I'd disagree with your positive review. I found this a brash, unwelcoming place, with over noisy music, a cramped interior design with a lack of comfortable spaces, a fast food feel with decidedly un-fast food prices, and a thoroughly boring selection of Greene King beers to boot. SSL is the company behind all those branded places at stations and is clearly trying to cash in on changes in the pub scene, particularly the move towards increasing beer ranges and authentic home cooked food, without really...
