2010 Lafon Rochet 4th Cru St. Estephe

I had some bottle variation with this blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The 2010 from Lafon Rochet seemed slightly restrained and closed down on the three occasions I tasted it in Bordeaux. Dense black/ruby, it displays sweet tannin, excellent purity, fresh fruit and a very primary, almost grapy style with lots of fruit, but at the same time, a somewhat monolithic character. It should turn out fine, but it certainly needs a good 7-8 years of...

Domaine Comtes Lafon, Le Montrachet Grand Cru, 2006

"Flowers, peach, and nut oils are dramatically front and center in the Lafon 2006 Montrachet as well. Here is the one overtly creamy wine in this collection, yet it doesn’t in the least lack for ripe citrus juiciness. This lacks the sense of dynamic felt in the Perrieres, but is somehow both statuesque and at the same time ethereal and cloud-like. Suggestions of minerality here have near-sweetness, like fresh scallops or a lobster shell reduction. A virtually indelible finish suggests distilled floral...

    Chateau Lafon Rochet 2010

Tasting notes Chateau Lafon Rochet 2010 Saint Estephe 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. Spicy, fruity, medium-bodied wine from one of the best value crus classés. Rich and plummy on the nose and carefully extracted on the palate to give a round, harmonious wine. Attractive young but will age gracefully. Drink 2018 – 2025.

Case of 6 Bordeaux Pomerol 2007 Le Jardin de Petit Village

Château Petit-Village is situated in the heart of the Pomerol appellation; its 11 hectares of vines lie next door to Vieux Château Certan. The estate shares an owner (AXA Millesimes) with Château Pichon-Baron and, as with the latter, Petit-Village has benefitted from renovation and improvement over the last two decades. Lower yields in the vineyards, a new barrel cellar and fermentation vats have all been implemented by Daniel Llose and Serge Ley, who oversee the work in the vines and winery between...

  • Les nuits d’ete, Op. 7 - II. Le spectre de la rose
Les nuits d’ete, Op. 7 - II. Le spectre de la rose

The judgement was based on a performance with piano accompaniment, hardly ideal for a composer with Berlioz's colourful orchestral imagination. Stage one was a jury of musicians; in 1828 they had not wanted to give Berlioz even the second prize for his fine cantata Herminie. But the second stage was a jury representing all the arts, and though Berlioz was later to mock this system, it was this larger jury of poets, painters, sculptors and engravers that insisted on awarding him second prize in 1...
