Chateau LafonRochet 2006
Tasting notes Chateau LafonRochet 4eme Grand Cru Classe 2006. Superbly situated adjacent to both Lafite Rothschild and CosDEstournel. 40% of production allocated to second wine. 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2%Petit Verdot. There is impressive weight & structure here, a deep, powerful wine with lots of black fruit and some solid tannins at the finish - very good value. Drink 2012
I had some bottle variation with this blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The 2010 from LafonRochet seemed slightly restrained and closed down on the three occasions I tasted it in Bordeaux. It should turn out fine, but it certainly needs a good 7-8 years of...
*94pts - Falstaff Magazin* "Dense black/ruby, it displays sweet tannin, excellent purity, fresh fruit and a very primary, almost grapy style with lots of fruit, but at the same time, a somewhat monolithic character. It should turn out fine, but it certainly needs a good 7-8 years of cellaring and should drink well for up to two decades." 90+ points - Robert Parker, February 2013 "This has a nice winey core of dark plum and macerated black cherry fruit, followed by racy acidity and flashes of violet...
Description and Reviews: This has a lifted, complex more extrovert nose of blackberry, cranberry, green pepper and freshly tilled earth. Full-bodied, sinewy and masculine but this has great concentration with good acidity
'A dark plum/ruby color is followed by a fruity, soft 2007 offering notes of black currants, licorice, and incense. It is a round, medium-bodied, attractive effort to consume over the next 7-8 years.' 87pts, Robert Parker, 2010 Sweet berry and plum aromas lead to a medium body, with fine tannins and a firm finish. Slightly hollow, but clean and well-crafted. Best after 2011. 87pts, James Suckling March 2010 more ↓ less ↑
