Natura morta was exhibited in the important retrospective of Morandi's works which was held in the Kunstverein in Winterthur, across the border from Italy in Switzerland; he shared the exhibition with Giacomo Manzù. The importance of the show is reflected in the fact that Morandi made one of his few excursions out of Italy on the occasion of its opening, travelling to Winterthur to attend it with Vitale Bloch and Lamberto Vitali.
