1996 Troplong Mondot Grand Cru St. Emilion
1996 Troplong Mondot Grand Cru St. Emilion

In a region where most estates hardly exceed 10 hectares, Troplong Mondot's 33 hectares make it one of the "biggest" Saint-Emilion estates. The vineyard covers the steep hillside and extends south all the way to the borderline with the Pavie domain. Exposure is outstanding with perfect conditions for natural drainage. Thick limestone under a layer of dense clay, plus abundant underground water combine to give the old Troplong Mondot vines the fertility only the grands crus can claim. This limestone...

  • Chateau Troplong Mondot France 2008
    Chateau Troplong Mondot France 2008

The 2004 Troplong Mondot exhibits a dark colour with light purple glints. The nose is powerful and harmonious with spicy, floral notes mingling with red berry fruit aromas and a touch of liquorice that is characteristic of the terroir. On the palate, the wine is supple and mellow, with firmness on the mid-palate, refreshing acidity, velvety tannins and a classy finish. Full-bodied and beautifully ripe, the wine is powerful but very well balanced. A long, ample and racy wine: a classic vintage.

    Chateau Troplong Mondot, 1975

Description and Reviews: On the nose there’s sweet cedar, smoked meats, dried flowers, sage and mint. It is quite generous in the mouth with delicious sweet fruit that is countered with plenty of savoury nuance. Acidity is still brisk and gives the wine vitality and lift and there’s still just a suggestion of chewy tannins on the finish. It is a Bordeaux for the Burg drinker as you keep being drawn into the wine’s sensual perfume.

    Château Troplong Mondot, 2009

After Christine got hold of the then ailing estate's 33 hectares, perched on a limestone plateau with breathtaking views towards the Dordogne, things rapidly changed for the better. Troplong employed Michel Rolland, the most famous Bordeaux consultant winemaker and driving force behind the dramatic improvement in a number of Saint-Émilion châteaux in the 1980s. They stopped harvesting by machine; began picking later and reduced yields; removed the remaining Malbec vines; introduced more new oak barrels...
