Well I plonked it in the pond and it made bubbles. I guess you can say it does exactly as it says on the tin! The solar panel needs pretty strong sun to power the unit so you need to be able to position the panel in a suitable place. I'm not sure it has made the pond any clearer but it has only been in there a week and it was pretty green however it is producing plenty of bubbles and I'm happy that it is sufficient to stop the pond stagnating
