Lovely "pineapple-lily" with green and white tones. Flowering later in the year than bicolor, and an invaluable garden plant. Another South-African species which suits most ordinary garden culture. Requires a sunny, well-drained spot, and perhaps a dry mulch during particularly hard or late frosts. Produces neat spikes of cream flowers, topped with a pineapple-like crown of leaves. Height is around 40cm in flower.
A very easy perennial/biennial, often self-seeding around the border. Excellent variety for flower arranging, with clusters of small blue globes - to 1 metre tall. The foliage is approximately spoon-shaped and bright green.
Black Fritillary'. These originate from Turkey, but have a hardy constitution provided they are well-drained and have a sunny position. Plant the bulbs slightly at an angle, and add a layer of sand and grit at the base. Height to 1m or so, and quite spectacular in flower.
"Baby's Breath" - This flowering perennial is well-known by anyone who has had a brush with the floristry trade. Often used in bouquets, as the flowers give the impression of a full bunch of blooms, but arise from few stems. Perfect as a way to add 'layers' in either flower arrangements, or when 'in vivo' out in the border. An easy enough plant, these require consistently moist soil and do not tolerate drying out. Ensure these get well-mulched in Spring, and that they are grown in moisture-retentive...
The Blue 'Jacob's Ladder' - a stunning perennial which flowers over a long season. The foliage mostly dies down in Winter, but these are relatively long-lived perennials, which form clumps over time, and self-seed when allowed. Height to 90cm
A great new variety of Primula capitata which doesn't require vernalisation to flower. When grown from seed, this means they can flower in their first year, and older plants may flower twice a year if you're really lucky. The flower colour is a rich deep blue, and the top of the flower-head is dusted with white bloom; habit similar to the 'drumstick-type' Primulas, with the flowers held high over compact foliage.
A highly ornamental grass which can form huge clumps over time, attaining a height up to 2m or more, with a similar spread. Supplied as young plants (P9 size)- perhaps the most cost-effective way to acquire this relatively fast-growing species!
Very early species, with porcelain-blue flowers.Similar to Puschkinia libanotica, but flowering earlier and with an unusual, more 'sessile' flowering style. These quite literally emerge through the Snow and Frost, often flowering in late January to mid February. Plant with Puschkinia for a longer display.
A bright colour range from this reliable and well-behaved perennial. The foliage froms a tidy rosette, and the flowers are bourne in succession on stems to 50cm, usually from the second year onwards. These will often self-seed in the right location. A versatile plant that can be grown in Rockeries, or the open border.
