Peter Lehmann Futures Shiraz 2008 is fermented in contact with the grape skins for 2 weeks. The wine is then matured in French oak casks for some 15 months prior to bottling. The wine is almost opaque with a deep red rim. On the nose the wine offers an attractive mix of ripe dark plum and cocoa. The wine is rich on the palate with abundant ripe fruit character checked by the oak influence and ripe firms tannins.

Marques de Riscal Rioja Reserva 2006 is produced with fruit from over 15 year old vines grown in the clay-limestone soils of Rioja Alavesa. Fermentation is temperature controlled and the juice is left in contact with the skins for no more than 12 days. The wine then matures in American oak barrels for 2 years to give a classic Rioja. Cherry red with a nose of dark fruit, toast and balsamic, the wine is crisp and elegant with fine tannins and great persistence of flavour.
Omrah Unoaked Chardonnay 2010 from the Great Southern region where has cool and dry wather perfect for growing Chardonnay. This unoaked wine has a lovely fresh, crisp palate with flavours of mango, peach and melon. Australian Chardonnays are all too often a little flabby, not so this example from Omrah. Lovely !

Montes Alpha Chardonnay is fermented and matured in French oak barrels using three different yeast strains with grapes from the Casablanca Valley. Ageing for a year after fermentation with monthly lees stirring enhances the flavour profile and butteriness of the wine. On the nose the golden hued wine is powerful with lots of ripe tropical fruit aromas. Banana and pineapple are evident on the also tropical palate supported by the oak character. A classic soft and creamy New World Chardonnay.
As one expects from Allegrini wines the quality of this La Grola single vineyard wine is exceptional. Classified as an IGT wine because the blend of Corvina, rondinella, syrah and sangiovese in non-classical the wine is none the less for this label. 20 years after the purchase and planting of this vinyeyard the wines are really starting to sing. A Valpolicella that you won't forget.
Bisol Jeio Prosecco, although the entry level wine for this producers, has a lovely bright straw-yellow colour and an abundance of long-lasting fine bubbles. It has flavours of green apples and a little sherbet character. An excellent value sparkler.
This single vineyard Soave from Pieropan is produced from the Calavarino vineyard just outside the walls of the town of Soave. A blend of Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave is used and produces a beautiful wine with aromas of elderflower and citrus fruit. It is a lovely gold colour with a touch of green and on the palate there is a attractive nutty character. Well balanced with a long finish.
Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port 2005 is produced using fruit from the Quinata's oldest vines. Trodden by foot in traditional lagares the juice is spontaneously fermented until the desired sugar level is reached at which point Brandy is added to raise the alcohol level to 19.5 % and stop the fermentation. A deep coloured wine with a powerful dark berry fruit nose. Full bodied with lots of tannic grip balanced by superb blackcurrant fruit and a lovely persistence.

Camel Valley Pinot Noir Brut 2009 has a lovely pale pink colour. Floral, with some light red fruit and brioche notes. Elegant on the palate and a super length of flavour.
Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is made with fruit grown in the sandy soils typical of the region to produce a classic pale-yellow Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. On the nose it has all the grapefruit, passionfruit and elderflower character expected of this style. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees lending it some extra complexity. The crisp, refreshing acidity is balance by a little residual sugar.

Chateau Cissac Cru Bourgeois 2006 is made by the Vialard family with a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot from the vineyards in the centre of the Medoc region of Bordeaux. The wine is temperature-control fermented in large oak vats before ageing for 18-20 months in French oak barrels, about one third of which are first fill. A garnet wine with a nose of ripe, dark fruit, vanilla and some tobacco leaves. Nice mouthfeel with a savoury character and approachable tannic structure...
After last year's huge success the 2010 vintage has been in demand. Made by founding winemaker at Cloudy Bay, Kevin Judd, this Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc is mainly produced with cultured yeasts in stainless steel, although a portion does undergo maturation in used French oak barrels. Individual vineyard batches are vinified separetely and were left on lees blending from the best parcels.

Quinta do Crasto Douro Red 2009 is made using carefully selected and de-stemmed blend of roughly 1/3 each of Touriga National, Tinta Francesa and Tinta Roriz grapes. The must is co-fermented to improve integration of the different varieties. A lovely bright purple coloured wine with a nose of berry fruit. Medium bodied with lots of blackberry character. Nicely balanced with good length of flavour.

Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc 2011 is made using fruit picked by hand rather than machine and includes a small percentage of "noble rot" affected grapes. The juice is fermented in barrels and is then matured with lees contact for about 12 months. It is complex and full-bodied with plenty of dried and exotic fruit character as well as some vanilla from the oak fermentation and some classic Chenin Blanc honey. Great.
Allegrini Amarone 2007 is produced by the first family of Veneto winemaking and is as such somewhat of a benchmark for the style. An almost black wine with an intense nose of berry fruits, chocolate, spice and leather. The palate is complex and structured, powerful but not overly sweet as so many wines of this style can be.
Thelema Mountain Red 2008 has a spicy nose of black pepper with dark fruits, mulberry and plum. Soft, approachable and easy-drinking.
When young these wines have a nose of fruits and blackcurrants. With age tertiary aromas of animal, musk and liquorice develop. This Gevrey Chambertin village wine from Drouhin Laroze is beginning to develop lovely teriary flavours in addition to the fruit character. A quality red Burgundy at under £30 per bottle.
The grapes, 100 % Prosecco, were picked late and then fermented at low temperature in stainless steel to preserve the maximum of the delicate fruity character of the rosecco grape. This fully sparkling wine has lower residual sugar than is often the case with Prosecco. This extra dry wine from Ca Morlin is a super aperitif.
Domaine Huet need little introduction, perhaps the finest producers of Chenin Blanc in the Loire. The "sec" or dry Vouvray from the Le Mont vineyard in fact has around 8g/l of residual sugar which is virtually imperceptible as it balances beautifully the piercing acidity of Loire Chenin Blanc. On the nose there is lemon and lime, with a certain herbiness and even perhaps a little talc. Juicy and fruit and very mineral. Excellent.
Ata Rangi have been making Pinot Noir in Martinborough/Wairarapa since 1980. This Crimson Pinot Noir is consistently ranked amongst New Zealands finest. On the nose the wine has lots of dark cherry and raspberry with notes of clove and other spices. On the palate the sweet fruit is plum and cherry with tannins which are supper smooth. a great wine with real charm.
Vergelegen Flagship Red is made with the classic Bordeaux Blend of red grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The finished wine is very dark ruby red with a nose of blackcurrant, red fruits and pencil shavings. A pleasant palate with ripe, fine tannins and good acidity balancing the rich fruit character.
The second wine of the classified Graves , Pessac-Leognan producer, Domaine de Chevalier. Esprit, is a Sauvignon Blanc dominated white, subtle on the nose. The palate is crisp, sharp and citrussy, but with some roundness and stone fruit influence too and a good long persistence and a lovely mineral quality.
Tinpot Hut Pinot Gris 2011 winemaker Fiona Turner uses grapes from the southern Omaka valley and Rapaura regions of Marlborough for this wine. Cantine Belisario make this lovely unoaked Verdicchio from the 'Terre di Valbona' vineyards planted some 350 - 450 metres above the sea which tempers the climate and retains some refreshing acidity in the wine along with its lovely lemony fruit. It has a lovely minerality and excellent length. Super value for money at £8.30 per bottle.
This iconic wine by Capezzana is produced in the Carmignano region, not far from Florence. The vineyard is sloping with a southerly aspect. With Sangiovese (70%), cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Canaiolo (10%) and the winemaking in stainless steel, the result is a ruby red wine with a sweet nose and just a whiff of oak. Jermann Pinot Grigio 2010 is made only in small volumes allowing Jermann to tend the grapes meticulously, keep vineyard yields low and harvest at the perfect moment. All of which, together with the individual vinification of fruit from different parcels and subsequent careful blending, allows the production of a wine of very high quality. An intense straw-yellow wine with a lovely elegant floral and fruity nose. Full-bodied with almond and vanilla as well as fruit. Balanced and easy to drink.
Kim Crawford Spitfire Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is made using grapes from a variety of sites across the Marlborough region. The fruit is de-stemmed and each parcel is vinified seperately with little skin contact and the finished wines are then blended to produce the classic Spitfire New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It is a lovely bright lemon-green wine with a nose of passion fruit. Rich on the palate, a full-bodied wine with citrus and tropical character as well as some grassy notes.
Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir 2011 is consistently ranked amongst New Zealand's finest. The wine has lots of dark cherry and raspberry with notes of clove and other spices on the nose. On the palate the sweet fruit is plum and cherry with tannins which are supper smooth. A great wine with real charm.
Fonterutoli Chianti Classico 2009 is made with hand-harvested fruit from south-facing vineyards near Radda. After being de-stemmed and crushed the warm (30oC) fermentation takes place over 2 weeks for good colour and flavour extraction. Maturation is in small oak barrels for 8 months to a year followed by 6 months in bottle prior to release. The wine is dark ruby in colour with a nose of cherry fruit and some notes of spice, smoke and tobacco. The palate is full-bodied with good tannic structure...
Livio Felluga Pinot Grigio 2011 is made by Andrea Felluga and Stefano Chioccioli using fruit from the estate's some 200 hectares of vineyards in the centre of the Colli Orientali DOC region. Great care is taken at harvest and during de-stemming not to prematurely crush the grapes thus avoiding unecessary oxidation. The juice is left in contact with the skins briefly before being fermented and matured in stainless steel tanks. The brief skin contact gives this wine the merest hint of a copper colour...
Domaine Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin 2008 is made with fruit from some of the oldest vines in Burgundy, many over 70 years old. These are low-yielding vines but the fruit produced is very concentrated. The Dugat philosophy is elegance over opulence and you can't argue with that when you tastes his wines. This village wine, which can be made with fruit from any site in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, has a lovely nose with aromas of ripe red and black cherries and classic "sous-bois" undergrowth...
Domaine Ratron's Clos de Cordeliers is situated on the famous limestone tuffeau soils of Saumur Champigny in the Loire Valley. The soil imparts in the Cabernet France the classic red fruit (berries and cherries), attractive floral violet scent and assures a crisp acidity. The tannins are not course making this wine enjoyable even in it's youth.

Valpolicella can have somewhat of a poor reputation, but this wine renews tha faith. Fantastically soft and juicy, lots of fresh cherry character and a refreshing acidity. A great example.
The Pinot Noir grapes are hand picked fro a variety of parcels around the Russian River Valley for the wine from De Loach. Fermented in wooden open-topped vats prior to 9 months ageing in French an Hungarian oak barrels. It is a bright purple wine with lots of red berry character on the nose. On the palate it is a sumptuous wine, with spice, gingerbread and ripe soft tannins. Excellent length of flavour, the oak is restrained, and there is good balancing acidity.
A true little brother to Brunello this Rosso di Montalcino has delicate Sangiovese character. Cherries and herbs, classic sangiovese together with a little spice. This is an approachable easy drinking wine, medium-bodied it wil drink well over the next few years.
A fifth of the grapes for thei Mitolo Cabernet Sauvignon are dried for several weeks in a process similar to that used for Amarone. The Mitolo Jester wine was fermented cool in order to preserve the maximum fruit character in the wine. The wine is a deep purple colour, on the nose the Jester wine has lots of blackcurrant as well as spice and some oak character. Round and full on the palate the flavours of blackcurrant, a little dark chocolate are supported by ripe smooth tannins.
This Solosole Vermentino has plenty of ripe fruit character together with a steely almost riesling-like quality. Poggio al Tesoro is a 70 ha property and is a joint venture between the Allegrini family and their US importer.
This Rose Champagne from the famous house of Laurent Perrier is very elegant, with red and dark fruit notes as well as the classic toast and brioche champagne character. A lovely deep pink colour and a super dry finish the wine is made with late harvested grapes (Pinot Noir only) from Grand Cru vineyards. Not half bad.
Shaw and Smith hand pick the Sauvignon Blanc grapes for this wine, a regional speciality to the Adelaide Hills. Fermentation is in stainless steel at cool temperature to maximise fruit character. A lovely zippy wine with some Sauvignon Blanc grassiness as well as some riper exotic notes.
