I would have to disagree with Malcolm with this one - sorry Malcolm! I may have have a duff bottle but I found this wine very thin, too acidic and lacking in fruit to balance it out. If you have to chill a white wine to a inch of its life to make it drinkable then it isnt worth buying. Get the Codorniu raventos at the same price-knocks spots of this

Boillot chose to harvest the 2007 vintage very early on in September to retain acidity and pure fruit flavours. The nose is elegant with underlying notes of minerals and nutty oak flavours but slightly reticent. While the palate is dense and rich with good structure and finesse. Superb length and crisp acidity show that this wine will only improve with time in bottle. Drink now until 2012.

Matetic EQ Sauvignon Blanc 2008 San Antonio Valley — £10.99
I tasted this wine at the vineyard in Feb 2009, it was bright with a fresh fruity nose, the taste was well balanced fruit and acidity with a good lengthy finish. The wine maker is young enthusiastic with a good budget to work with, his EQ pinot noir was stunning. I will try this and hope it has travelled well!

This Rose is a lovely drop, very easy drinking too. These days it is difficult to find a dry rose, but this delivers and is not too dry. The fruitiness is retained, so if you like a dry Rose, I recommend this as a top 10% Rose, without a doubt.

This is a fully matured parcel of wine from what was a solid vintage in the Graves. A harmonious bouquet is dominated by smoky bramble fruit and a touch of spice. Rich and opulent on the palate it has perfectly balanced tannins making it an ideal partner for roast beef.

The wines of La Mancha follow the style of Rioja but for a fraction of the price. 100% Tempranillo with 30 months ageing in American oak barrels, a complex nose shows bramble and cherry fruit blending with vanilla, nutmeg and clove from the oak. Velvety smooth texture displaying dried red fruits and a subtle spiciness which will make it marry well with pasta and asian dishes.

Romanissa-Southern French Vins de Pays-Majestic Wine — £19.99
Matassa means 'underwood' in Catalan, and this wine shows plenty of the garrigue herbs, spice and red berries typical of wines from this region of France. Made using Biodynamic principles from a blend of Grenache, Carignan and Mourvedre, the palate shows ripe fruit, a mineral acidity, elegant structure and silky tannins. An excellent food wine.

Unlike many rosés, though, this wine has its serious side, and can grow in depth and complexity with a year or two in bottle. Domaine Sainte Rose 'La Nuit Blanche' Roussanne 2008 Vin de Pays des Côtes de Thongue — £9.99
The Roussanne grapes were picked overnight as it is the coolest time of day and protects the pure fruit flavours, hence the name 'La Nuit Blanche'. The direct translation means 'The White Night', but literally means 'The Sleepless Night'. Rich and creamy with exotic fruit aromas, with fresh mandarin notes and nuts on the palate.

Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie-Muscadet-Majestic Wine — £6.99
I bought four bottles of this wine because I had previously enjoyed a muscadet I bought from Majestic. It is the first time I have ever poured wine down the sink. It was acidic and totally lacking in body. I gave a bottle to my sister and her husband who drink wine with there meal every evening. They agreed with my assessment. I have one bottle left which I intend returning to the store. Perhaps someone can use it to cook with.

Romate Cream Sherry — £6.99
As i write this I am quaffing on some Romate Cream and although i dont find myself going crazy over it I do still sit here with a nice warming sensation and a persistent length to this sweet an slightly complex wine. The almond/nut character is great, the sweet coating it leaves in your palate lovely, definitely a more positive than negative experience!

Looked forward to this as Spy valley scored 5 stars in Decanter. Great nose and first taste, but do people like Jane MacQuitty drink the whole bottle? Basically the wine is unbalanced and by the end of the bottle (with food) it was an effort to drain the glass.

The Cahill Lane offering from this boutique Californian winery is more restrained than others, it has real Burgundian tension with oak, fruit and structure in perfect harmony. Obviously produced with a nod to France with a lovely purity of Chardonnay flavours which would put many première cru Puligny Montrachet's to shame. With notes of hazelnut, apricot and hot buttered toast this is a real food wine which will drink now or cellar nicely for 3-4 years.

Scotchman's Hill winery is located on Mount Bellarine, the extinct volcano that forms the tip of the Bellarine Peninsula on the south-east coast of Victoria. Deep purple in appearance, a complex nose displays ripe, dark fruits with a touch of mint and licquorice. This is balanced by spice and notes of cedar oak. Château Lalande-Borie-St-Julien-Majestic Wine — £24.00
St Julien has that lovely cedar note, and superb depth and sublety and this is no exception. Not as powerful as the truly great wines, but will mature over the next few years into something wonderful. It is drinking pleasantly enough, but needs a few hours after opening to develop. 2004 was not a blockbuster year, but does offer value, and this certainly has that.

The Tessari family have been growing grapes in Soave since 1887, but in 1982 the family, aware of their land's great potential for producing high-quality wines, decided to stop selling their grapes to the local Co-op and begin making their own wine. The result is a stunning white with citrus, floral and buttery notes and a rich yet fresh palate. This wine will be beautifully matched with hors d'oeuvres and fish-based courses.

However this wine had a unpleasant oily finish reminsient of white spirit or WD40. At dinner we tried to track it down to another source but further tastings concluded it was the wine!

This is a gorgeous, succulent Côtes du Rhône, showing superb notes of red and black berry fruit flavours and a warming hint of spiciness. The palate is full with soft, velvety tannins and a long satisfying length.

This wine is everything you'd expect from an Aussie Shiraz, deep magenta in colour and bursting with dark red berry fruits, pepper and oak aromas. The palate gives way to blackberry, blackcurrant and plum backed up by rounded tannins and savoury oak characters. Excellent length and a genuine bargain, enjoy with red meat straight from the BBQ.

Rioja Blanco-Rioja-Majestic Wine — £7.99
Well I just can't get enough of white rioja and this is the perfect example. Really fruity - loads of citrus, very crisp, very clean, but never too bitter or overly-zingy. Sauvignon blanc fans will love it (but it's much nicer than a sauvignon at this price).
