Autumn Makeup Buying Guide
Every season, the popular makeup palette
changes a bit. This season, we will see a shift away from certain makeup staples that have been in our makeup bags
for years, and new exciting shades are already being released on designer makeup lines
. If you're looking to get prepared for autumn's new makeup trend, we have everything you need to know!
The Eyes
Eye trends change from season to season: that's why keeping up-to-date with what's hot is very important. And there's no other season when makeup, especially for the eyes, is crucial to your daily look. As our tans fade and pale skin now becomes acceptable, bold colours are patted and drawn
on and around our eyes. One crucial makeup staple is mascara
. This thickening, volume enhancing, and tinting lash enhancer
never goes out of style, and if it's applied correctly
, it will give you lashes you'll never want to stop batting. You can skip mascara on the bottom eyelashes, but this decision will be based on personal preference. Here is a look at few of the season's hottest eye makeup trends.

Follow the Lines The most dramatic change in makeup this season is the replacement of black eyeliner pencil with liquid eyeliner . Instead of the typical wing-tip or cat eyes, trace liquid liner straight along the base of the upper lash line while the more daring will create slashed lines above and under the eyes. |
Add A Touch of Drama That wide-eyed, Twiggy-inspired mod look is back, but this time it comes with a lot of drama. Add false lashes to the top and bottom lash lines, line the inner rim with white eyeliner , and make your lids scream fashion forward with brightly coloured eyeshadows . |
Futuristic Flair Typical autumn tones are back, so earthy shades of gold and green are still in, but you can pump up your daily look with a little metal. No, we're not talking about piercings, but solid metallic shadows and shimmers that will surely make your eyes sparkle. |
Tried and True Mauve and plum shades of eye makeup have been added to most makeup lines this season, so try a purple eyeshadow with grey eyeliner as well. |
The Lips
This autumn is all about bare lips
. Want colour? Let lips glisten with lip gloss
. A golden tinted lip gloss
will be all you'll need this season. If you prefer lipstick, go for nude shades
or pink hues
. You will want to have natural-looking lips because the focal point of your face will be on those dramatic, nearly theatrical eyes. Many women aren't exactly sure how to wear nude lips; it's a huge problem because every pair differs not only in texture and size, but also in colour. Here are a few tips to getting the perfect natural-looking pucker.
- Much like your face and body, you should always exfoliate your lips
. This will remove dry or flaky skin, leaving behind a smooth surface to apply lipstick or lip gloss. Once you have exfoliated, apply a soothing lip balm
.
- If you don't have full lips, why not give yourself some? Use a nude lip liner
to outline and define your lips. This trick also prevents lipstick from feathering.
- Not into lipstick? Apply concealer
to your lips for a completely bare look. Once this is done, you can add a sheer or matte gloss
to make your pucker shine. You may find concealer to be a bit too much, so go straight for a lipstick that will not completely flush out your lips. In other words, you don't want to look dead. Find a colour that complements your skin and lip tones.
We know that nude lips are not for everyone, so there's nothing wrong with rocking your favourite red lipstick
. Not only is it a classic, it looks good on everyone!
The Face
Natural looking foundation
and concealer
is always in, and much like your lips, your cheeks and other facial areas will be all about looking natural this autumn, so go easy on the blush
. In fact, the runways were filled with models wearing little to no blush this season! If you need a little colour, go for a cream blush
in a shade that matches the natural undertones in your skin. The focus this season is on translucent bold colours and shimmer, which only works if the rest of the makeup is simple. This means you will have to put away most of your bronzers
and blushes for another season.
