Most everyone loves a day at the beach, and why not? The raw beauty of nature and the refreshing ocean breeze are rejuvenating and most definitely needed after a cold, drizzly winter. However, you might associate a trip to the shore with the temptation to tan and therefore be wary due to A), the boredom that this elicits in some, B) the feelings of pressure to entertain your children or your party; or C) the fear of direct UV rays and eventual premature ageing. Just remember: your vacation belongs to you! Sure, you're bound to see plenty of folk basking in the sun, but that doesn't mean you have to give in. There are plenty of other activities that will not only distract you from feeling like you should be oiled up and cooking in a lounger

Beach volleyball is both traditional and classic activity that can be enjoyed by groups large and small. You'll need a few necessary pieces of equipment and the rest is up to you. If, sadly, a day at the beach is not in the cards, there are several popular video games that will let you appreciate the sport from the comfort of your own living room.

Beach volleyballs are slightly larger in circumference than traditional balls. They also have a lower internal pressure and tend to be rougher in texture. To appeal to the outdoorsy crowd, you will often be able to find them in bright colours. |
If you're a day tripper, you'll want a net that is easily set up and taken down; otherwise, feel free to splurge on a sturdier system. |
UV rays can be just as damaging for your baby blues (or browns) as they are for your skin. Protect them with some sport sunglasses, and as an added bonus, you'll also be able to see exactly where your spike is going. |
