Christmas Gifts Buying Guide

Buying gifts is arguably one of the most stressful things about the Christmas season.  Sure, this time of year is supposed to be about togetherness, faith and good cheer, but try explaining to a three-year-old that presents aren't the real purpose of the holiday and see how far you get.  Let's face it, gift giving is a necessity, but that doesn't mean that it has to be a chore.

Shopping Tips

We've all been there: scouring the shops at the eleventh hour, trying to find that perfect gift for our husband, daughter, father, or girlfriend.  It sometimes seems like this last minute panic is unavoidable, but we at ShopWiki are here to help you make the most of the holiday season.  After you've checked out our gift guides, read on for a few more handy hints that will make your Yuletide shopping as painless as possible.

  • Start early.  The less rushed you are, the less panic you'll feel.
  • Work out a budget.  Figure out how many gifts you have to purchase, and how much you plan on spending for each person on your list.  Having this down on paper  (or on the computer ) will help you keep to your sum.  Using a shopping search engine (like ShopWiki!) can help you research and find the best bargain available.
  • Plan your gifts.  Get an idea of what you plan to buy and for whom, and research where you can make this purchase.  This is where starting early comes in handy!
  • Buy extra.  Pick up one or two generic gifts (candles ,vases , or spa sets  always work great).  We've all had it happen where we receive an unexpected present.  If you buy more gifts than you need, you'll have fewer reasons to panic.
  • Encourage gift exchanges.  If you work in an office or are part of a large family, suggest a Secret Santa exchange: you draw names, and only have to shop for that one person whose name you pick.
  • Remember, it's the thought that counts.  Don't get so caught up in your shopping that you forget about the person for whom you're buying.  When you find yourself getting caught up in the Christmas crazies, take a deep breath, pour yourself a cup of tea , and take a break.  You'll be surprised at how much better you're able to focus when you've taken some time out for yourself.
