Comedy Films Buying Guide

Everyone likes to laugh, and science has proven that laughing can actually help you live longer. So if you want to stay healthy you should get some comedy movies right away and start laughing.

Recent Releases

A lot of hugely successful comedy films have come out in the past couple of years. Maybe you missed them in the cinema or just want to watch them again in the comfort of your own home, either way these are all worth checking out.

Superbad 

Two friends spend their last day of school trying to lose their virginity and worrying about their imminent separation for college.

The Hangover 

Three friends wake up after a crazy bachelor party in Vegas to find not only can they not remember any of the night before, but they've lost the groom. Only wackiness could ensue from that set up.

Role Models 

Paul Rudd  and Sean William Scott  star as energy drink reps forced to work community service in a "Big Brother" child mentoring program. Wackiness ensues.

The 40 Year Old Virgin 

Steve Carell  plays the virgin of the title, and the film follows his attempts to lose his virginity, win the woman of his dreams, and grow up.

Anchorman 

Will Ferrell  stars as San Diego's number one anchorman, poised to fall from grace with the arrival of a new female co-anchor in this surreal comedy.

Classics

Comedies that have stood the test of time and kept people laughing for decades.

Annie Hall 

Woody Allen's  masterpiece and one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time, it charts the love affair between Allen's neurotic New Yorker and Diane Keaton's  Hall.

Ghostbusters 

Three unemployed professors, led by Bill Murray , set up a ghost extermination business and end up the only ones who can save the world.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off 

Matthew Broderick  skips school, has adventures, and teaches us about the speed at which life moves and the value of taking the time to stop and look around.

Dazed and Confused 

High school seniors in 1978 spend their last day of school drinking, partying, and hazing the freshman in Richard Linklater's  nostalgic coming of age classic.

Groundhog Day 

Bill Murray's  hapless weatherman finds himself reliving the same day over and over again.

Comedy TV Shows

Of course comedy isn't just limited to films, there are many classic sitcoms worthy of your attention, and most are now available on DVD.

Arrested Development 

Follow Michael Bluth as he has no choice but to keep his wealthy family together after they lost everything following their father's imprisonment.

Peep Show 

Get inside the minds of Mark and Jeremy, two "very ordinary weirdos", in this dark cult sitcom.

Cheers 

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, and while none of the Cheers characters actually know your name, that shouldn't stop you from spending time with Sam, Norm, and the rest of the gang, with DVDs of one of TV's best loved shows.

Fawlty Towers 

The classic sitcom stars John Cleese  (formerly of sketch comedy legends Monty Python ) as Basil Fawlty, the beleaguered and incompetent manager of the world's worst run hotel.

I'm Alan Partridge 

Steve Coogan  stars as the self-obsessed, neurotic, and completely clueless Partridge who, having lost in the talk show he had in Knowing Me Knowing You, is now living in a travel tavern and hosting the graveyard shift at Radio Norwich.
