'''Cutting Tools – Broaches Buying Guide'''

cutting tools that are designed with series of teeth that are arranged in rows, commonly used in metalworking.  Every teeth row is successively bigger and in the desired shape when compared with the previous row

Types of Broaches

Broaches are normally created for particular machining operation or for an individual user.  Some of them are given below: * Internal Broaches: These are pushed or pulled via a starter hole. Machines can be completely automated multiple stationary verticals or simple presses or horizontal pull kinds. * Rotary Cutting Tool Broaches: The design is very much like a chip breaking slot, but the edge of cutting is lowered and the teeth slots are deeper and heavier in order to withstand the load of heavy cutting. These are designed to get deep cuts beneath a surface of poor quality. * Hexagonal Rotary Cut Broach: These are used for holes of smaller diameter. * Spline Rotary cut Broach: These provide more flexibility than other kinds of tools and even allow optimum stock removal. * Keyway Broach: Both internal and external keyways in almost all machine parts and tools are cut using these types of broaches. * Multiple Spline Keyway Broach: This is equal to the tool with series of broaches (keyway), with the teeth that is used for cutting is spaced evenly around the diameter of the tool. Teeth could be involute, spline, straight sided or a combination. * Helical Broach: These are used for broaching helical splines. * Spiral Tooth Broach: Teeth of these broaches are at a shear angle meant for internal broaching. The engagement of the teeth with the work piece can lower vibration. * Surface Broaches: These are used for removing material from external surfaces. They are either passed over the surface of the work piece that needs to be cut or the work piece is passed over the horizontal or chain or vertical tool machines for producing contoured or flat surfaces. * Sectional Broaches: These are used for broaching hard or unusual shapes mostly in one pass itself. It can be flat or round, external or internal.
