Double oven gloves are typically made of cotton and most have a steam barrier made of Nylon or other materials between layers of insulation. It is a good idea to check the maximum temperature to which the gloves can offer successful protection. There are oven gloves made of lighter and thinner materials like Kevlar cotton that offer better grip on the dishes and better protection from burns but not from steam or vapour. Silicone oven gloves which can handle heat up to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and are made of non-slip rubber are another option to consider.
Double oven gloves have a roomy structure with or without separate provision for fingers. Gloves with separate provision for the thumb offer a better grip on dishes. Double oven gloves may be two individual pieces or a single long fold out piece with provision to glove both hands. Long fold out pieces help prevent burns to the wrist and forearm but are uncomfortable if they are not of convenient length.
Double oven gloves come in contemporary and retro designs that can be coordinated with your apron or the decor of your kitchen. Oven gloves usually have inset magnets that can attach the gloves onto any metal surface or a corner loop that can be used to hang the gloves for convenient storage.
Double oven gloves with colourfast prints preserve their appearance better after being washed. There are oven gloves with Teflon surface that resist stains and water. Most double oven gloves can be machine washed.
