Computer Printer Paper Buying Guide

Computer printers require special types of paper feeds for printing mails, documents and office requirements. Generally printer paper is available in matte finish and glossy finish. Matte paper has a white coating and is well suited for everyday usage. Glossy paper is well suited for printing photos and images.   

Types of Printer Paper 

• Inkjet Paper: Copier paper is effective for printing general office documents in an inkjet printer and they are less expensive. Colour printing requires coated paper for better clarity. However special inkjet paper is available and they include photo paper, glossy paper, business cards, and greeting cards.    
• Laser Paper: When laser printing is used in checks and labels, a special type of laser printer paper is used.  
• Photo Paper: Inkjet printers can print photographs and photo papers are used for this purpose.  
• Dot Matrix Printer Paper: Dot matrix printer paper can be completely white or have green stripes for reading data feeds easily. Both single-part and multi-part computer paper formats are in use. 

Factors to Consider

• Weight: Higher the weight of the paper used, thicker is the paper. Thicker paper is more opaque and allows less light to pass through. They are used in printing for presentations and so on. For regular printing light paper is good enough.  
• Brightness: Contrast between paper and toner or ink is denoted by numbers. Higher the contrast, higher is the number of brightness. So whiter paper provides better brightness and output.   
• Smoothness: Laser printers require smooth paper because when heat is involved it requires smoothness. Ink-jet printers require textured paper because the water based ink should dry faster fro sharp images.
