Hairbrushes and Combs Buying Guide

Most of us do not think too much before buying a comb  or a hairbrush . All the same, it’s always good to know more about them and how to go about buying the right one for our hair.

Buying Hairbrushes

  • You first need to determine your hair type; if you have thick hair, use a round  or radial  brush while blow-drying your hair.
  • For straight or wavy hair, a flat paddle brush  is right. A simple tip to remember is the wider the base of the brush, the straighter your hair will turn out.
  • The boar bristle hair brush  is commonly preferred for straight hair because the dense bristles will give more shine to the hair volume. If you’re wondering how; a boar bristle brush spreads the sebum from the root down the length of the hair shaft.
  • Never use bristly brushes on curly or knotted hair as it may get stuck! Instead, go for plastic  or nylon-bristled  brushes. A mix of nylon and natural  bristles is also great for normal hair.
  • A cushion brush  is like a massager and works for everyday detangling. It is generally used by men.
  • Thermal brushes  work like a curling iron or hair rollers; they produce volume when blow-drying hair.
  • The vent brush  is very simple and is not dense so allows air to flow through it.
  • If you have a bob cut or short hair, then you should buy the styler brush . It straightens the ends of your hair very well.

Buying Hair combs

  • Teeth that are closely spaced remove bounce from curls and create a smooth surface. On this basis, choose from wide-toothed combs  or fine tooth  feathered combs. You can pick the regular comb that comes with both. Babies’ combs  have soft tooth that will not hurt while combing.
  • Combs with picks  are perfect for adding volume to the front of the hair.
