Hair styling mousse and foam are popular hair care and styling products that have become as important as a hair conditioner or shampoo. They help you style your hair in any way you want to. In addition to adding volume to the hair, hair mousse also conditions it and provides a moderate hold needed for styling control. Also known as styling foam, hair mousse is usually used to style hair when wet.
Before picking up a hair mousse, consider the hair type and the kind of styling you are buying it for. For instance if you have dry hair, pick up a brand that doesn’t use alcohol but has natural conditioners and vitamins instead. Other common variants of mousse that you will find are aerosol foam spray, cream spray mousse, mousse for extra volume, mousse for straight hair or curly hair. Other kinds include hair mousse with ultra-violet sun protection and lightweight, non-aerosol spray gels or organic hair mousse for the environmentally conscious.
To ensure that the hair mousse is of good quality, pour some on your palms. If it is in a foam state and expands to form a coin-size to egg-size blob, then it is good. If it doesn’t and remains in a liquid state, get another brand.
Although hair foam also thickens and conditions hair, it is mostly used to set the styled hair in place and get a neat and crisp look. They give an extra hold and voluminous look to the styled hair allowing one to maintain their hair style for a longer time. To get voluminous hair using foam, apply it on the entire length of your wet hair and then dry your tresses upside down or take it strand by strand and use a curler.
