Brushes that are used in the kitchen are meant to be multi-purpose or multi-tasking types. Some brushes are used for cleaning the kitchen tops or cooking gadgets, while some are used for cleaning food items like shellfish, mushrooms, fruits and vegetables.  Brushes are also used in basting the patches in pastries.

There are brushes in all sizes, shapes and designs. The bristles are either hard or soft, with long or short handles. The bristles are made out of various materials.

How to Choose Brushes for Cleaning?

  • Brushes are selected based on the task and surface in which it is going to be used.  For instance, brushes with soft bristles are used for cleaning food items to lower the damage caused to them and brushes with stiff bristles are used for cleaning cooking gadgets or kitchen tops.
  • Brushes made of synthetic bristles last longer but can encourage bacterial growth but brushes with natural bristles are not so as they do not last for a longer period.
  • Scrubbing brushes with changeable heads are a good option as they are very cost effective and perform well.
  • The bristles need to be flexible enough to bend and straighten wherever required so that they clean cervices and rounded parts easily and efficiently.
