Lamp Shades Buying Guide 

A lampshade is like clothing for your lamp and lightbulb, that should enhance the rest of your furniture and space.

Shapes

Choose the right shape to blend with the style of the lamp. Lampshades come in oval ,square ,empire ,coolie  and drum  shapes. Drum lampshades look best with columnar lamps while square lampshades suit an angular lamp.  

Fabric

As mentioned above, this is a critical factor because illumination depends on it. Lampshades are made of fabrics, such as raw silk , pleated fabric, cotton  and linen .Glass  and crystal  is a material commonly used for ceiling lampshades .Pleated lampshades  are more traditional and would suit a room furnished with antiques. Embroidered ,beaded  or fringed  lampshades also look very pretty.  

Design

Pick from vintage lampshades ,contemporary lampshades , Victorian and country style lampshades. If you are going for a patterned fabric, make sure it matches the overall look of the room. You don’t want something too loud or garish! Here’s an example – if you have a bronze lamp, you may like a golden tone lampshade  or for a richer feel, a red lampshade . For a contemporary silver lamp, try a black lampshade !
