Liquid herbal extracts are considered the most precise method of providing therapeutic dosages of medicinal herbs. Herbal extracts are an extraction of an herb in water and alcohol (referred to as a Tincture), or in vegetable glycerin (these are called glycerites). The proportions of plant constituents to fluid vary for each herb as different levels of alcohol are required for full extraction of an herb's medicinal properties. Since a proper herbal extract contains a known amount of plant material, an herbalist is able to properly recommend a dosage protocol for patients to properly benefit from a specific herb or herbal formula.
