Roasters Buying Guide

A roaster is a pan or a dish that can be used in the oven or sometimes on the hob to roast different types of food. A good roaster is an essential accessory to prepare a succulent meal using your oven. Generally roasters are for use only in the oven though there are roasters that can be used hobs including electric, gas, ceramic, halogen top and induction stoves. 

Roasters Types & Benefits

• Heavy gauge stainless steel roasters with copper or aluminium base are suitable for deep roasting because they offer excellent heat conduction.
• Ceramic, lower gauge stainless steel or glass roasters are comfortable for cooking vegetables and food that do not require deep roasting.
• Roasters also serve as oven-to-table dishes and are available in different shapes like square, rectangle, oval, round, etc.
• Roasters manufactured from cast iron provide an even and efficient distribution of heat.

Buying Tips

• Choose multipurpose roasters that are dishwasher, freezer and microwave safe.
• Roasters with grooves create an anti-slip surface that aids grip and is morecomfortable to handle with your mitts on.

• Care should be taken to check the maximum temperature the roaster can be subjected to in the oven.

• Choose roasters that will fit comfortably into your oven with a minimum of 2”clearance on the sides with capacity to hold required quantity of food.
• For cooking food where the juices need to be preserved, use roasters with higher sides.
• A lid allows condensation of moisture released from the food and prevents the food from becoming dry while keeping the flavour intact.
