Saws Buying Guide
Saws are one of the important types of tools that can save great energy while doing the job accurately or precisely. There are manual saws worked with hand and there are powered saws that work with electricity.
Handsaws
- Crosscut saws are mainly selected and used for cutting wood across its grain.
- Rip saws cut the wood along its grain and has bigger teeth.
- Coping saws are mainly used for cutting irregular or circle shapes in wood and looks like the letter “P”.
- Back saws or miter saws are used for straight and precise cuts for finer joints in woods. They are used along with miter box or gauges which guides them for making angled cuts.
- Hack saws are mainly used to cut hard materials like pipes of metals. They come with smaller sized teeth.
- Bow saws are suitable for quick and rough cuts but are not used for cutting precisely.
- Key-hole saws make smaller sized curves or holes in wood. Originally were used for cutting holes for incorporating metal locks in wooden doors, now they are used for making holes to incorporate electrical boxes on walls.
Power Saws
- Circular saws mainly consist of round blades that are powered using electric motors. Various kinds of blades can be attached for various purposes.
- Saber saws or Jig saws are used for cutting not so straight cuts in wood.
- Reciprocating saws look very much like jig saws but are very powerful than them and come with small feet. They are very versatile in nature.
- Scroll saws are a combination of small blades and tables. Mainly used to cut elaborate decorations for cabinets or shelves, wooden toys or other scroll work.
- Table saws make angled or straight cuts in wood projects.
- Miter saws can be turned or tilted for cutting compound miters. The same is known as chop saws when cut metals. They are called as tile saws when used for cutting tiles.
- Band saws can cut into metal bands and in lumber re-sawing.
- Chain saws are either powered using electric motors or gas engines, mainly used for cutting firewood, trimming bigger branches and trees.
