Serveware Buying Guide

Serveware, which includes anything from dish sets to cutlery,  are available in various materials including durable plastics like resin, melamine, glass, earthenware, porcelain, silverware and stoneware.

Essential Serveware Items

  • Serving trays and platters can host an array of appetizers or the main course.
  • Oven to table serve are those that are used both in the preparation of food and serving them. 
  • Pitchers are used formally during special occasions in dining and are casually used in chilling liquids in refrigerators like the plastic pitchers.
  • Condiment serveware sets include hostess sets, dipping bowls, spice racks and pepper and salt shakers.
  • Trivets also known as hot plates are used for placing hot dishes on them so that they do not damage the table top surface or table cloth.

Specialty Serveware Items

  • Dip and chip serveware are mainly used for serving chips in them.
  • Tea and coffee sets make a very formal and elegant statement and are most often used during special occasions.
  • Outdoor serveware are mainly used while entertaining guests during picnics or outdoors.
  • Gravy boats are serveware that resemble boats with or without lids for serving dishes.
  • Soup tureens are bigger sized bowls normally with lids and a notch for serving ladle to be placed in them even when the lid is covered on it.
  • Warming trays and buffets are used for keeping huge quantities of food warm prior to serving.
