American Football Buying Guide

American football is a competitive US team sport known for its highly and physical play where the main aim is to strategically advance the ball such that it is passed over the opposing team’s goal line. This can be done by either carrying the ball over the goal line or throwing it to a teammate standing on the other side of the goal line, kicking the ball through the goal posts at the opponent side or even by tackling an opponent carrying the ball when he is within his team’s end zone.

Ball Size

Buy foam footballs for kids below the age of 6 and the K2 football for the kids between the age of 6 and 9. For the 9 to 12 age group, pick up the TDJ/Junior Footballs and the TDY Footballs for the age group, 12-14. For 14 and older, the children shoudl be able to handle official footballs.

Ball Material

If you are going to introduce your kids to football, then it is safer to pick up rubber footballs as they can be used in the pool as well unlike leather footballs and are inexpensive. If it is an American football that will help you train yourself or your kids that you are looking for then you should go for leather or synthetic leather footballs. The latter has a lesser grip as compared to leather footballs. There are three types of leather footballs, full-grain, split grain and genuine leather.

Other Accessories

The paraphernalia of American football only starts with the ball. You have to focus on proper safety equipment including shoulder pads, chest pads, hip and tailbone pads, thigh and knee pads, gloves, forearm pads, rib vests, collar pads and football helmet. The padding you buy will also depend upon the position you play in the game.
