Martial Arts Kung Fu
Chinese in origin and development, kung fu is a type of martial arts that uses natural body movements to focus on physical fitness as well emotional discipline.
Kung Fu Clothing and Accessories
When practising kung fu, always remember to wear comfortable and flexible clothing.
- Kung Fu Suit: Kung Fu traditional uniform, designed for the martial artist allows full range of motion. Mostly made of cotton, uniforms are medium in weight. Trousers come with elastic and cord waist.
- Kung Fu Sash: Sashes are to be worn with kung fu trousers. Satin or silk sashes with coloured stripes are very popular. The professional sash comes with tassels on both ends. Sashes are available in two sizes, 3 metre or 4 metre lengths.
The 4 Major Kung Fu Weapons
- Kung Fu Sword: Usually made of high carbon steel, kung fu swords have wrapped grip and steel fittings. The textured wooden scabbards are designed with slotted openings which make for easy sheathing. The Chinese double-edged sword is known in martial arts traditions as the king of blades.
- Broadsword: The Chinese broadsword are moderately curved with a single edged blade. Once wielded as a deadly weapon war, today the broadsword is used only demonstratively in kung fu exercises.
- Spear: For training, the stainless steel spear head is usually rounded and unsharpened, set on top of a flexible wood shaft. You will also notice that Chinese spear will have a red tassle attached to the head. This is not just for decoration; in the hands of a master, the movement of the tassle create visual illusions to confuse and distract the opponent.
- Staff: The staff may look like an unimpressive bamboo or wooden stick, but in the right (or wrong hands) this weapon can stop swords, brake bones, and do a lot of other painful damage.
