St. Patrick's Day

Top o' the morning to ya laddies! It's time to think greenwith beer, shamrocks, leprechauns, corned beef, and jigs. Whether you're throwing a party, going to a parade, or hanging out in the local pub, this guide will help you prepare.

Lucky Decor

Get in the festive mood and decorate your house, classroom, or bar in beautiful green. Just remember that lots of alcohol plus a room completely decked out in green might equal people turning green, and not in a fun, festive way. * Green streamers and cutouts of shamrocks are easy to hang around the room. Also consider hanging green beads around doorways or on the walls. Make your own beaded curtain in a doorway. * Green confetti or shamrock confetti can be sprinkled around tables and counters. * Don't forget green plates, forks, knives, napkins and cups if you're having a party. * Not everything has to be green. Fill up some gold and white balloons. * Everyone loves a good Irish jig! Play some traditional Irish music, maybe something from Riverdance (complete with tights and sweatband). Or a young crowd might prefer The Dropkick Murphys, U2, or The Cranberries.

Food and Drink

Even if you don't cook traditional Irish food, throw in a few drops of food green coloring and voila! Green food coloring makes everything better. Traditional dishes include corned beef and cabbage, soda bread, stew, and Reuben sandwiches. Green M&Ms and jelly beans will make the perfect snack. How about baking some shamrock-shaped cookies with green icing? You can add food coloring to your favorite frosty beer or chug Ireland's finest, like Guinness or Killian's. Prove that the Irish can hold their liquor with a bottle of Whiskey or have an Irish Car Bomb. End the night with Bailey's Irish Cream or Irish coffee.

Attire

So what should you wear? You guessed it! Anything green! There are plenty of St. Patrick's Day shirts and hoodies with shamrocks, beer mugs, and Celtic crosses. Spruce up your outfit with a green bowler hat or headband, a beaded necklace, glasses, and a "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" pin. If you're going for the leprechaun look, a green blazer and top hat is the only way to go. Girls can even find a pairs of shamrock stockings to dress up their outfit.
