Once upon a time you were responsible for only yourself, and you probably left the house without thinking about anything but your keys and wallet. Now, many moons later, there is a little someone who is depending on you to take him or her wherever you go. But how do you carry a baby, and still get your errands done? This is exactly why Baby carriers  were invented. Now you can go wherever you please while still keeping baby close to you.

Remember, it is a good idea to go to the store and try a baby carrier out. The latest fad may not be the best carrier for you. Take into consideration your body strength, safety issues and trip lengths before purchasing!

It may seem like slings are a new fad now that every celebrity is using them, but they are not. There are versions of this baby carrying method in nearly every ancient society. However, there are plenty of good reasons why they are so popular now!

  • They can be tied in a fashion that relieves pressure on your shoulders.
  • They keep baby closely tied to your heart, which some physicians feel is important for infant development.

Be aware that if you are concerned about safety, these slings do not have safety straps. They are secured only by how well you wrap your child.

Front Carriers 

Front carriers are a tried and true method of carrying your infant. Mums and dads across the world use these carriers every day.

  • They are structured carriers which strap to your body.
  • Baby can sit towards you or away from you. Younger babies can get more head support facing you.
  • They come in all different weights from heavy duty to light weight, depending on the activities of the day.

However, unlike the baby slings, you can not rearrange the straps to relieve pressure on your back.

Backpack Baby Carriers 

Backpack carriers may not be the most popular of carrying methods, but they are still around.

  • Backpacks are the most structured of carriers and come with several safety features.
  • They allow older babies to observe the world around them, which can stimulate their senses.
  • They are tough enough for long trips, especially for parents who want to go on hikes!

However, for short trips they are not convenient, and it can be quite difficult to get baby out if they start to sleep.

Many of these baby carriers range from simple to complex, and you pay for it.  The more gizmos and gadgets there are, the higher the price will be.  Here are some specific add ons that might be worth your while to use.

  • Side Entry Buckles  could be a very convenient addition to your baby carrier.  It helps reduce the hassle of getting baby in and out.
