Chemical depilatories work by dissolving the hair so it can be scraped or washed off the skin. The results do not last as long as those for waxes, but they do last longer than shaving, with an average of a week, depending on the person's hair. Many dark haired users will find that depilatories will leave a slight dark patch due to the fact that the hair is still there under the skin. Many complain of the odour and messiness and therefore, many manufacturers have responded with scented depilatories. Most chemical depilatories are creams, but you can also find gels, roll-ons, lotions, spray-ons and powders. Furthermore, many include a sponge or tool that will allow the hair to be easily wiped away, so you won't have to deal with a big mess.
