Freshwater Fishing Reels Buying Guide
Freshwater fishing, whether in a lake, stream, river, bog, or puddle, is generally enjoyable, providing the fish are biting and the weather is cooperating. To make sure that you actually freshwater fish properly and happily, you're going to need some supplies, and to go along with your fishing rod,
tackle box,
lures,
leatherman,
wader boots,
fishing line,
fishing net,
and fish finder,
you're going to need a reel.
There are three basic types of freshwater fishing reels: baitcasting, fly fishing, and spinning reels. There are a lot of companies that produce reels, but you should really consider what you are going to be fishing for before purchasing. If you're not sure, check with field guides, local outdoor product retailers or local bait shops--they should be able to tell you what fish bite at what time of year nearby. Also go by your skill-level at present, not how great you'll become. Fly fishing is fun and beautiful to watch, but don't buy the gear until you know how to fly fish--you never know whether or not you'll sync with it.
