Jogging Prams Buying Guide

The Design 

  • Bigger wheels offer more stability for running and rough terrain through increased surface area and tread size. 
  • And while large wheels work great on jogs, they are also effective on tricky surfaces like curbs, steps, grass and hills.  Sometimes, they may be sold separately and referred to as all-terrain wheels. 
  • The large, bicycle-type wheels should be combined with a lightweight frame to ensure that the carriage can easily get over uneven surfaces at a running pace.
  • Just because there are three wheels doesn't mean it's a jogger.  Make sure that packaging states that your pram is specifically intended for jogging before you purchase it.
  • Look for a jogging pram that ha a three or five-point seat belt to keep baby secure.  Hand-brakes and shock-absorbing suspension are also important considerations.
  • Many models have a sleek, sporty look and come with added accessories like storage pouches  and water bottle holders. 

Practical Considerations

If you only want to buy one pram and you want it to be a jogger, you have to make sure that it has some other important features.

  • Portability.  Find a pram that can be folded to a compact size and easily stored in a trunk or overhead bin on an airplane.
  • Assess the accessories.  It may be difficult to find a jogging pram that comes with food trays, for instance, so be wary of the sacrifices you may be making if you decide to buy only one pram.
  • Take a practice run.  Before you buy that impressive looking jogger, take it out for a test spin.  You don't need to strap baby in--just see if the empty pram is easy to move, turn and grip for starters.
  • Quality is key.  You could potentially find a jogging pram that will last your baby from six months to the toddler years, so investing in a quality, slightly more expensive pram in the beginning may be more economical in the long run.
