Electric citrus juicers work pretty much the same way as old-fashioned reamer-style juicers. They generally less expensive than other juicers, and most models have similar features.
|
Centrifugal juicers extracting juice by using high-speed spinning. They can be used to juice all types of fruits and vegetables. Most have a collection area for the pulp which makes clean-up a snap
|
These juicers chop produce to a pasty consistency and then push it through a screen to separate pulp. They yield the most juice for a given amount of produce, and tend to be more expensive than other juicers.
|
If simplicity is your preference, then a manual juicer is for you. Avoid using hard vegetables (i.e. carrots) to keep the blades from dulling. A good glass of juice is a crank's turn away! |
These juicers are specially built to extract the juice from wheat grass. They are available in either manual or electric versions. If you are wondering why there's a juicer just for wheat grass, check out the health benefits. |
Things to Consider
Pulp
- Some prefer lots of pulp, others like their juice 100% pulp-free. If you are particular about particulates, make sure to get a juicer with adjustable pulp levels.
- Look for models that offer automatic pulp ejection so you can juice away without having to stop to remove the pulp.
How Much Juice for Your Juice?
- Consider how often to plan to use your juicer.
- Frequent use, or a preference for more vegetables requires a more powerful juicer.
- Don't be afraid to choose a slightly more expensive juicer if you plan to use it somewhat frequently.
- The blade with stay sharper longer, and chances are the motor has a warranty.
Cleaning
- This is perhaps the most important aspect to consider when purchasing a juicer. Ask yourself:
- How many pieces does the juicer break down into?
- Are the parts dishwasher safe?
- Do you need any special tools to disassemble it for cleaning?
