Juicers Buying Guide

Buying a juicer can be one of the healthiest choices you can make when it comes to kitchen appliances  In just minutes, you can enjoy a delicious blend of your favourite fruits and vegetables--foods that deliver an unmatchable source of daily vitamins and minerals in just one glass  Doesn't that sound better than drinking juice made from concentrate and loaded with extra sugar and preservatives? Types of Juicers

Citrus Juicers 

Electric citrus juicers work pretty much the same way as old-fashioned reamer-style juicers. They generally less expensive than other juicers, and most models have similar features.

  • Use only with citrus fruits.

Centrifugal Juicers 

Centrifugal juicers extracting juice by using high-speed spinning.  They can be used to juice all types of fruits and vegetables.  Most have a collection area for the pulp which makes clean-up a snap

  • Look for a model that offers a warranty.

Extractors/Masticators 

These juicers chop produce to a pasty consistency and then push it through a screen to separate pulp.  They yield the most juice for a given amount of produce, and tend to be more expensive than other juicers.

  • Recommended for frequent use.

Manual Juicers 

If simplicity is your preference, then a manual juicer is for you. Avoid using hard vegetables (i.e. carrots) to keep the blades from dulling. A good glass of juice is a crank's turn away!

Wheatgrass Juicers

Things to Consider

Pulp

  • Some prefer lots of pulp, others like their juice 100% pulp-free. If you are particular about particulates, make sure to get a juicer with adjustable pulp levels.
  • Look for models that offer automatic pulp ejection so you can juice away without having to stop to remove the pulp.

How Much Juice for Your Juice?

  • Consider how often to plan to use your juicer. 
    • Frequent use, or a preference for more vegetables requires a more powerful juicer.
  • Don't be afraid to choose a slightly more expensive juicer if you plan to use it somewhat frequently.
    • The blade with stay sharper longer, and chances are the motor has a warranty.

Cleaning

  • This is perhaps the most important aspect to consider when purchasing a juicer. Ask yourself:
    • How many pieces does the juicer break down into?
    • Are the parts dishwasher safe?
    • Do you need any special tools to disassemble it for cleaning?
