Outdoor Christmas Lights Buying Guide

Whether you love 'em or hate 'em, Christmas lights  are a must-have in Christmas decorations  The way you decorate outdoors  for Christmas  reveals the Christmas spirit  inside of the home!

Before you put up one string of lights be sure to plan out how you will place them to avoid aggravation and mishaps.  Get out the measuring tape  and ladder  and calculate how you will deck out your windows doors and shrubbery  with outdoor lights and how many hundreds (or thousands) of bulbs  you will be needing.

  • Be sure to add on a few extra feet in length for the pitch of the roof
  • Outdoor trees  and bushes  are typically about 50 lights per foot of height.
  • Strings of lights  come in packs from 25 lights to 200, so break out your extension cords  and buy accordingly.
  • Look for strings that can be plugged  into one another.
  • Plan to use shorter strands of lights  If one light bulb  burns out, it will be much easier to replace a shorter strand.
  • Think about what colours  and schemes you will use.  Brights or whites?  Flashy or subdued?  Will you include any lawn decorations?
  • Consider placing your Christmas lights  on a timer if possible.
