Winter 2009 Style Guide

Winter is officially here, and with it come snow and cold weather.  Brrrr!  But just because you're bundled up in heavy coats and woolly scarves, this doesn't mean that you can't still be fashion-forward (remember, you have to take off your parka sometime!).  A number of this season's trends are easy to incorporate into practically any outfit, regardless of cumbersome layering, and trying out the newest hot make-up looks is a sure-fire way to make a splash.  Read on to learn more about some of the coolest looks to have graced the Fall 2009 runways.

Women's Trends

Sequins

Metallics  and sequins  were huge on the runways, and against winter frosts, you'll feel extra sparkly.

Menswear for Women

Channel Annie Hall  with a boyfriend blazer  or a men's shirt  worn as a dress. Tomboy? Hardly!

Bold Prints

You're not your Gran, so forget about being dainty--make a statement in loud plaids  or floral  prints.

Ankle Boots

Ankle boots  can be tricky, but they look great with miniskirts  or worn over skinny trousers

Purple

There's no question: purple is this year's It colour. Try accessorising with a purse  or sunglasses

Men's Trends

Cardigans

When the weather outside is frightful, stay cosy. Cardigans  are perfect for layering.

Dark Denim

Black jeans  and dark denim  look stylish and let the attention go to your face.

Glitz yourself out in pewters  and charcoals These colours prove especially dramatic with a smoky eye.

Pout-worthy Lips

Vamp it up with a dark and shiny lip (try a berry lipstick  or gloss ), but remember to balance with subtle eyes.

Unexpected Colour

Energise yourself with shocking fuchsias royal blues electric purples  and sea foam greens
