Spa Treatment Products Buying Guide

Going to the spa may be the ultimate in relaxation and pampering time, but most people simply cannot afford the time and money it takes to go to the spa every time they need to unwind. Luckily, there are plenty of spa products  to choose from that can turn your bathroom into a luxurious at-home spa. These products also make great gifts for people who need a little pampering time or those spa-obsessed friends. We have all the tips and products you need to give yourself the TLC you deserve.

How to Choose Spa Treatments

  • Choose how much to tackle. Obviously, we would all love to lay back and be completely transformed and relaxed from head to toe. However, that is extremely time consuming and often more stressful. Plus, depending on your budget, you may not be able to pick up quality products for every inch of your body all in one day. Decide your goals beforehand.
  • Decide your budget. Don't just go out and grab as many pretty spa products as you can hold. Quality spa products can be expensive, so decide how much you are able to spend before shopping.
  • Be practical. Buy products that you are going to use more than once. If there is a treatment that is super time consuming, make sure you promise yourself to take that time out of your schedule on a regular basis. If you have doubts, skip the product or buy in a small or sample size.
  • Always keep your skin type in mind. Don't just randomly go out and grab spa products. Someone with oily skin shouldn't undergo an extensive shea butter moisturizing routine, for example. Make sure you do treatments that you will benefit from. See our guide on Skin Care for more information.

Relaxing Spa Treatments

Tea lights  and votives  are perfect for creating a relaxing and soothing setting. Make sure to be safe though, and keep them away from your skin, hair, and spa products!

Use a bath pillow  to help make your time in the tub even more comfortable. If you want to save some money, you can also simply roll up a terry cloth towel  and use that as a pillow.

Look for bath oils  or bubble bath  to help whisk you away to a relaxing place-- right in your own bathroom. Look for comforting scents that you enjoy (though some with highly sensitive skin may want to go with fragrance free products).

Use a massage mitt  with a little bit of bath oil to really get you relaxed. Nothing says luxury like a massage. Battery-operated massagers  are also a good bet, but make sure to keep these on the dry side.

There's nothing like an aromatherapy eye mask  to block out the stressful day to day life. These masks help soothe the senses and calm tired eyes, as well as block out light so you can leave your worries behind and truly unwind.

Facial Treatments

Use a facial sauna  to open up your pores before doing any other treatment to your face. Once the pores are open, you can really scrub away all the dirt and grime.

After using a facial sauna, use a facial scrub meant for your skin type. The goal here is to shed as much dead skin as possible. A chemical peel  or even microdermabrasion  may be needed.

Get a facial mask  made for your skin type. There are facial masks for dry, oily, combo, normal, sensitive, ageing, and acne-prone skin. Cucumber slices will cool your eyes and help eliminate dark under eye circles.

Before starting any treatments, make sure to clean the face thoroughly and gently pat dry with a clean towel. Use your favourite face cleanser  or any cleansing product of your choice.

After all that heating and cooling and scrubbing, make sure to give your face some TLC. Try a facial moisturiser  meant for your skin type.

Body Treatments

Just as your face needs to be exfoliated, so does your body. Use a body scrub  or body polish  to get off dead skin and reveal all the healthier, younger skin underneath.

You may want to use a body mud It hydrates the skin and helps detoxify the skin. Plus, they usually help make you feel super relaxed.

Bath oils  are perfect for soaking sore and aching muscles. Take an extra long bath and let yourself be pampered.

Use massage oils  and massage bars  when you get out of the bath. They'll help lock in moisture and rub away all that tension.

A body butter  will really nourish your skin, but don't use it too often if you have super oily skin or you are prone to blemishes on your body. Go for a lighter moisturizer if you feel that body butters make you break out.

Other Treatments

A deep conditioner  will repair split-ends and damaged hair. If your hair is looking a bit unhealthy today, give a deep conditioner meant for your hair type a try. A hot oil hair treatment  can also help repair frizzy, unruly hair. Simple apply and relax in a shower cap  while it works its magic.

Don't forget your feet! Look for a foot massager  or a foot spa  to make sure your feet get the TLC they deserve! These devices are especially nice after a long day at work.

Nothing is better than a good massage. While trained human hands do the job the best, there are a few machines, such as the kneading Shiatsu massager that can relieve tension and get all those knots out.

Don't forget manicures  and pedicures They'll make sure you look just as fancy as you feel. Look for kits that have all the supplies you need, like a spa bootie

Hair removal is another spa treatment. Home waxing kits  are great because they don't usually have to be used more than twice a month or so. Though it is irritating to the skin, the extra pampering provided by the other spa treatments will make sure no harm is done.

Spa Clothing and Accessories

Look for a robe  made of terry cloth or Egyptian or Turkish cotton. Avoid fleece because it sticks to moisturiser, and forget silk if you are using body oil since it can stain the fabric.

Spa slippers  will make sure your feet stay toasty warm. They'll also help make sure you don't slip in case some of that bath water gets on the floor!

A hair wrap  is perfect for hair treatments or keeping hair dry and out of the way while applying spa treatments. While a towel works well, a hair wrap will stay on longer and be easier to secure.

After all that pampering, you should go to sleep like a true princess! Try ending the night with some silk pajamas  and getting your beauty rest.

Bath and Body Oils

Bath and body oils  will add to the relaxation of your at home spa treatment and help lock in moisture. You may want to avoid oils if you have extremely oily skin and are prone to blemishes and breakouts on your body. Check out some of our top picks below.
