Summer 2009 Style Guide

Arguably the BEST season, summer is on its way and that means swim suits,  sunglasses,  and sandals!   Get ready for the season by checking out these hot trends for fashion, beauty, and health.

Women's Trends 

Looks We Love
Sheer Sheers were all over the catwalk for spring and summer, and the most popular colours are nude,  black,  and white.   Don't worry about feeling TOO exposed; the idea designers is to feel half naked.	Neon This trend can be worked to the max, or simplified if it's not your thing.  Look for bold shorts,  tanks,  and dresses  or just accessorise a neutral outfit with a pop of a neon accessory.	Tapered Trousers Cropped  or tapered trousers  are a great buy for the summer, especially if you aren't too confident about showing off your legs.  They can be dressed up or down!  The ones we are seeing everywhere are loud, printed, and bold in colour, allowing you to keep the rest of your outfit super simple.	One-Shoulder You've been getting in shape all winter and now is the time to show off those toned arms.  This trend is most popular in dresses  this season, as we see it in maxi  and mini dresses.   It's versatile and great for going out!	Fringe We have seen a lot of fringing on bags,  skirts,  and shoes.   It looks like summer might try to encompass a Native American vibe, so expect to see a lot of feathers soon too.

 

Men's Trends

Styles to Snag
Smart Preppy This timeless trend gets a little bit of a boost with cropped trousers  and blazers.   Think about polo shirts in lighter colours like pink  or peach  this season and try out a pair of cuffed shorts  for a clean look.	Retro Rock If you have done this look once before, it's time to bring it back.  Dust off those old jeans  and vintage tees  and check out Justin Timberlake's new line of clothing,  designed with a vintage rock  vibe in mind.	Crumpled Classics For casual wear, think comfy.  Finally, fashion is giving the blokes a break by incorporating worn-in styles  into summer fashion.  Trousers come in smooth fabrics  and jackets turn to a lightweight wrinkled material.	Hats Hats are back with a vengeance.  Lacoste  featured Panama hats  and Louis Vuitton  conquered floppy hats.   Think outside of the box and go with something interesting.	Gladiators For the feet, it's all about the gladiator sandals.   Check out the movie  again for inspiration and then go get yourself a pair.

Health and Beauty Trends 

Must Haves
Textured Hair Even if it took you hours to do, the idea is to have messy beach hair  that looks textured and effortless.	Strong Brows Put down the tweezers  and pick up the eyebrow pencil.   This summer, we are going for a look as natural as possible, and that includes healthy, fully-grown eyebrows.	Retro-Inspired Eyes Apply a thicker line of liquid eyeliner  on your upper lids and be sure to give it wings at the end of the eye.  This look pairs beautifully with neutral face make-up  and softer hues of shadow,  making your eyes really stand out.	Creamy Lips Sticking with the natural (yet glam) look of the season, we have seen a lot of neutral colours on lips.  You can get this look by applying foundation  onto your lips, or looking for a neutral matte lipstick  in shades of light peach.	Glossy Skin  The idea is to look like you have that dewy, fresh-out-of-the-shower look.  To create this hyper-luminous style, apply highlighter  to the usual areas and add some extra to your forehead and nose.  When going for this look, it is best to keep the rest of your makeup neutral.
