Wedding Programs Buying Guide
While we're sure that your wedding to-do list 
is long enough without the addition of yet another fancy piece of stationery, we're going to say that the wedding programs are a ceremony essential that you simply cannot ignore. Not only do they keep a record of what happened on your special day, but they also make your guests feel included and comfortable, and help them to understand the proceedings that they are about to witness. Wedding programs are also a good way to give a little shout-out to your bridal party participants and if nothing else, they'll look great in your scrapbook.
More Reasons to Have Them
- If you plan to have a religious wedding ceremony, there may be some customs that guests are unfamiliar with. A wedding program is a perfect way of explaining those traditions and informing guests of any actions they need to take during the ceremony (such as collective prayer, standing, kneeling, etc.)
- If you're super popular, you may want wedding programs just to give people a heads-up on who is in your bridal party.
- If you've had a lot of help in putting this whole shebang together, you may want to use your wedding programs as an opportunity to thank everyone who pitched in.
- If your guests are going to be waiting awhile before the ceremony starts, use your program to let them know how long the prelude music will last before the ceremony starts.
What They Should Say
- The Cover.
- The cover should include the date and the couple's names. You may also want to include the location and time of the ceremony along with some design element.
- The Order of Events.
- This means the prelude, the processional music, any greetings, readings and prayers, the exchange of vows and rings, the announcement of the marriage and the recessional music. This is by no means an all encompassing list, and you should feel free to include whatever you think is necessary.
- The Bridal Party.
- This is pretty self-explanatory. You want to cover all the major participants in the wedding ceremony, including the parents of both the bride and groom, the officiant, the best man, the maid of honour, the groomsmen and bridesmaids. You may also include the names of any readers, along with other important familial figures, like grandparents or step-parents.
Program Extras
- Any requests for audience participation in certain parts of the ceremony.
- Religious traditions explained.
- Any memorial information, such as a candle lit in memory of a parent or good friend.
- Directions to the reception if it is taking place in a different location.
- A bit of information on why the chosen location/music/readings are important to you.
- Some of your favourite quotes or poems about love or marriage.
