Wedding Themes Guide

When it's time to start planning your wedding, the best part is imagining what the big day will look like!  Though you might be focused on budget and location, think about the wedding style, the décor, and ultimately the theme.  Though many couples have some kind of vision in mind, it can often be overwhelming to implement it into a tangible plan.   Look at different colour schemes or seasonal ideas to give your wedding planning a sense of direction and wonder!

Popular Themes

Beach

Beach ceremonies conjure up thoughts of beauty and fun at the same time, making this theme very popular.  There are so many different ways to incorporate the ocean, the sand, the surf, and the ocean life into your wedding.  Find a festive mix of everything you like, or stick to one theme such as seashells

Nautical

Add some maritime magic to your wedding!  Think about wood docks lanterns lighthouses anchors and nets  This is often a popular theme among military weddings and those in the Royal Navy but it will work for any couple looking to reflect their love of the sea.

Pirates

This festive theme is for the young at heart.  Encompass the feeling of "Pirates of the Caribbean"  at your destination wedding and look to bring back the old world of raucous buccaneers....and be sure to have plenty of rum

Garden

Being one of the more popular themes, springtime flowers and insects make their way to the wedding.  This theme is excellent for the spring months or for lovers of nature.  Stick to one basic motif or include everything in the garden  that you can think of.

Country

To really get in touch with nature, think about a rustic country wedding.  Held outdoors  or in a barn there are simple linens  and earthy tones  to play with, making this theme perfect for the spring or summer.

Harvest

A beautiful time of year, the harvest season makes the perfect setting for any wedding.  It's easy to situate all of your décor around a particular item, such as gourds or enhance your wedding with an accented palette of seasonal colours such as gold, red, burnt orange, and brown.

Fantasy

This theme incorporates the whimsical romance of Cinderella  and her Prince Charming.  Other fairytale  and fantasy weddings look to incorporate dragons faeries unicorns or wizards  The choice is yours, so get creative but keep it consistent with one story.

Gothic

Go entirely against the wedding traditions and keep it beautifully dark.  Look to use a lot of black lace  and small red  or purple  pops of colour.  Lighting should be dim and music should be classical  to keep the mood.  There is versatility here, as you can go Victorian Medieval or boldly hold your wedding in a cemetery.

Celestial

Reach for the stars, the moon, and the beauty of the galaxies in this type of wedding.  Look to keep colour schemes in the blue family  along with touches of silver gold or white ; try putting twinkle lights  behind dark fabrics  for a great effect.  It's also a nice touch to have a telescope  nearby, and it will keep the kids amused.  For intimate weddings, hold the ceremony outside at night!
