Cat collars  are a great way to give your cat some style and ensure his or her safety. It's important to have metal tags  made with your home address and phone number in case your kitty cat gets lost. Kitty collars come in virtually every colour and design and can help your cat show off his or her personal style. Collars with bells  help alert neighborhood birds that your cat is nearby. Flea collars  keep your feline friends from itching all day, although some cats can be allergic. Many professionals debate the effectiveness of flea collars. Some claim that they only kill fleas around the head and neck, while others go even further and claim that they can be dangerous to cats and children. If your cat has a bad flea problem, the best thing to do is to take the cat to a veterinarian to receive a flea bath or other medications. Breakaway collars  are made to release and open if your cat ever becomes caught on anything. Reflective collars  help your kitty be seen at night and in the dark. Many collars come with a small ring to allow for a leash  to attach to it. Buy a cat harness  if you want to take Fluffy for walks on the town!

What to Look for When Shopping for a Cat Collar

• Before shopping, figure out your cat's weight and measure the circumference of your cat's neck with a tape measure.  Make the tape measure loose enough to comfortably fit one finger between the tape and your cat. This is how tight the collar should be as well. Use this measurement to buy the correct size. Collars usually come in small, medium, and large. Each package normally will give a range of neck circumferences or a weight range that the collar will fit on.
• Figure out what type of collar is best for your cat. Outdoor cats usually do best with a breakaway collar  that is reflective  and has a bell.  Indoor cats can wear pretty much any collar.
