Petite Clothing for Women
I always insisted that my secondary school coat is a chic piece of vintage--which we all know is so in--but there was a point when I myself had to laugh at this conspicuous fear of shopping. The poor little pea coat, with its shredded lining and ailing buttons, had the sad glimmer of lost magnificence; and so to preserve its remaining dignity, I had to lay it down to rest. Consequently, and in all its terrifying glory, a most harrowing mission lay before me--finding a coat that had not hailed from the "little misses" section at Harrods.
I was determined to find something better for women, good women; women who have suffered for decades the tribulations of shopping petite.
Tips on Getting the Right Fit
|
| - Do not settle for clothing that is too big, too long, or that does not fit your proportions. Clothing that does not fit properly can overwhelm the petite frame and make the wearer appear even shorter.
- Watch out for the shoulders and arms. This is often a problem area for petite women because their shoulders are smaller than those of women of average to tall heights. Extra material in this area will create a space between the shoulder and neck, so make sure this is not the case.
- Get in touch with your body shape. Do you have a long torso with short legs, or is it the other way around?; Are you large or small breasted?; Bottom heavy?; Learn what brands best fit your body because sometimes a good fit is worth a hemming fee.
- High heels are your friend. Heels elongate your figure, give you better posture, and more confidence. Plus they make you taller in a crowd. Sometimes heels are uncomfortable and wearing them will make it difficult to walk; I have one word for you: insoles. I wear insoles in all of my shoes and they make life a little nicer. If your heels are still giving you difficulty, try a slightly flatformed model--the smaller incline and thicker heel makes this shoe easier to wear.
